I have had a love/hate relationship with Microsoft software for the past 25 years, from MSDOS through to Vista.
However it has kept my brain active into old age, and is probably responsible for my good looks and calm outlook on life. Mainly because I have spent so much time cursing it and trying to get the better of it.
However now it is just plain bloody boring, which is of course is how it should be. Nowadays a computer is a tool not a toy or a hobby, you just want it to work in the background whilst you get on with its useage.
I have XP, SP3 on one hard drive, Vista Home Premium, SP1 on the other, and I can not remember the last time either one crashed. Almost miss the blue screen of death and the challenge of sorting it out without a Format.
Am I on my own, or do others miss the days of Sir Clive, Spectrums, QL's, Amstrad PCW's, all of which I lost my virginity on, but was thrilled when I soldered another 250kb memory chip in, got online to Prestel on a 1100 Modem, hacked into the software to personalise it, went from a monochrome monitor to a colour one with pixels the size of smarties and 8 colours, then went through the upgrade process to the beginning of todays GUI, Windows 3?
OK, so things are slow today, Luke is pissing me off, wants a scooter, wants a Ski Holiday, wants to join the Royal Marines, but in two years and not tomorrow, Verian is out mowing the lawns, and Khan has just knocked my drink over in a display of affection.
Scotty, beam me up............
