Lotus Factory Tour

Post by Victor Meldrew » Sat May 19, 2007 2:54 pm

I will be doing a Walshy day this year and was thinking about a visit to the factory on the return leg. The question is....... Is it worth bothering with.

It's worth it :thumbsup The tour I was on on Monday lasted 3 hrs. with a short break in between each part (classic Lotus, motorsport division etc.)

I'll probably do another factory tour when I'm down there in July to get the car serviced.

I was down last year with Del and David Lockhart (plus other halves) for the tour and Scare Yourself Sensible. Thought it was worth the time and money to go.

Me and a mate are going down to do the Scare Yourself Sensible, sometime this summer. Just waiting for them to get back to me with available dates. £99 cant go wrong really.

Why go to the Scare Yourself Sensible for £99 to spend about 20 minutes driving their Elise round a track when you can pay £190 to do a Walshy day and get a full day's tuition on an airfield in your own car? :scratch

I thought about the Scare Yourself Sensible experience before I got my Elise, but I think the money would be far better spent on a Walshy day if you own an Elise. Might be almost double the price, but you get a full 9 - 4 day of excellent tuition from what I consider to be the best driver I've ever had the pleasure to witness in my life! Much more worthwhile IMHO and you can still pop over to Hethel for a factory tour on the way back up. Only 4 people at a Walshy day - don't know how many are there for the Lotus thing, but I'm guessing a lot more than 4. Double the price, but I reckon probably about 10 times more worthwhile! I've never been to the Lotus experience, but from what I've read in their advert, it doesn't sound like you get much time in the car!

Walshy's waiting list is growing and for good reason.

Was awesome to be racing against him this weekend, and to chat through a lap with him from his perspective

You wont regret it and i agree with Dezzy 100%

The main reason I'm doing the Scare Yourself Sensible is for the factory tour, not for the 20min driving and 20min being driven. I'm no way looking at this as proper driving training, just a laugh!! I thought if I'm flying down to do the factory tour, why not do the the Scare Yourself Sensible. I thought £99 is a good deal, plus I work for an airline that does direct flights from ABZ to NWI, so cheap flights :thumbsup

I am going to get round to do a Walshy day, as you and others have said, it'll be the best money spent. It's just I've got too much on at the mo and cant commit to a date just yet.

Didn't realise you were flying down Kev. Guess that makes sense! :thumbsup

How much does the factory tour cost on its own?

The scare yourself sensible day is more of an example of what your car can do in the hands of experienced drivers, pure poetry in motion. The Walshy day will be a totally different experience (I guess). My wife also did the scare yourself sensible day and loved it. The Walshy day would probably leave her hospitalised! Factory tour was better than I thought it would be.
Loved the SYS day and fully intend to move onto the walshy day :D
