Mysterious Coolant loss.

Post by Sanjøy » Mon Jan 16, 2006 1:43 pm

Okay so had the car for 5 years now and suffered a HGF once before on a previous engnie.
I still have the problem that by the end of the month I am having an empty expansion tank.
Brunty checked it all over and could nto find any signs of leaks in the obvious places.

I cracked open the matrix housing yesterday and founf nothing too untoweard, bit of crud in there but nothign wet.

Ordered a new expansion tank cap today to see if that is the fault and then I will be replaceing hte matrix as I get wiffs of smoe through them when left in teh garge for a few days and on occasion (3 times per year) I get a full smore screen that leaves residue on the window.

Stephan mentioned the smokey bacon smell and I think it is but I am very used to it. It certainly has its own odour.

Will let you know how I get on.

i doubt an expansion cap would weep that little coolant. when mines have gone, you tend to see it blowing out the top, and you notice big level swings in the tank. but good luck

Sanjoy,
It looks like it's the matrix or the connections at the matrix. Did you get the manufacturers details from Seloc? If you want to see if a recore is cheaper I have my old unit.

Meant to say, you replaced you unit with a new one and have your old one as a spare. Did it turn out to be faulty ? If not care to swap it for your roof and cat
Roof is in with MMC and car underground so can drop off both this weekend if you want.
How much you wanting for the matrix ?

You can have the matrix, get it tested and if it is leaking then it may be cheaper to have it recored than buy a new one. If we keep it going and add it to the spare parts then the group should always have one to be reconditioned so that any faulty ones can be simply exchanged thus minimising the time the car is off the road.

Sound like a plan??
