Orange - amazing customer service!

Post by dezzy » Sat Apr 21, 2007 6:55 pm

I've had the odd grumble with Orange over the 9 years I've been with them, but generally they've been pretty good. Today, they gave me the most fantastic offer I could have imagined for renewing my contract and upgrading *early*!

I currently have an Orange SPV M500. While it's handy having Windows mobile and synching with Outlook on my work PCs, I'm getting sick of having no keypad and want a normal phone again. I'm getting a work phone soon anyway, and that'll be an Orange one with Windows Mobile, so I'm covered with the synching thing.

My current Orange contract isn't up until June, but they've let me out of it 2 months early to renew with a new 18 month contract. They've given me:

- A Sony Ericsson K800i (looks like a great handset and amazing camera);
- 2600 any network, anytime minutes per month;
- Unlimited texts (up to a fair usage policy of 3000 texts per month);
- Free calls up to 1 hour in length anytime to a 'magic' Orange mobile no. of my choice (a lot of my mates are on Orange, so this is quite handy);
- A new 'magic' number every 6 months

All for . . . . . £30 per month! I think that's fecking fantastic! No upgrade fee and they've let me upgrade 2 months early. I currently pay £25 per month for 500 off-peak mins and 100 texts per month. My bills usually end up around £35 due to using the phone during the day. So, this package is fantastic!

BTW, you can achieve all this by selecting the "I'm thinking of leaving Orange" option on their customer service number and appearing a bit dissatisfied! ;) :thumbsup

That's a good deal! The advisor's commission goes down the more he gives away so you must have really screwed him to the wall on that one! :thumbsup

Worth noting that you are all "out of contract" 2 months to go, you have to give 30 days written notice to end your contract but you pay line rental a month in advance so they have to grab you early! Be careful though some providers will add this on to your next contract. We do :wink:

Didn't realise that! I didn't actually try that hard . . . he genuinely wanted to offer me a good deal! Maybe he just wanted to get home since it's a Saturday night!

:lol: got it! You'd be amazed what we give away just before home time. Bribery works better than "Just feck off!"

Gave away around £800 today... :wink: Anyone want my extension :lol:

They can buy you out of old contracts sometimes, worth finding out how much of his commission he is willing to blow. If you waste his time he will want to get rid of you so will cut his losses and will sacrifice his commission for a sale.

I spent 15 minutes explaining to 3 that as they clearly had a 15/month tariff and I had been paying the 20 (and previously 25 and 30) /month tariffs they really should let me switch to the other tariff for the rest of my contract.

They didn't understand this, so I said that was fine, I would cancel my contract then (i.e. give them as many days notice as was left on the contract - about 100 odd I think). Oh we cannot do that sir. WTF, I have to give you exactly 30 days notice?!? Basically I have to telephone between 30 and 45 days before the end of the contract to give notice that I want to cancel it and I cannot give them more notice.

When I took the contract they were cheap, but there are better tariffs to be had on other networks now, so will probably switch once more in the summer. Rich, you obviously need to do me a deal (us, actually, as in theory I could bring Katie and my business handsets with me too ...).

Cheers,
Robin

We are like easy jet: You get what you pay for. If it works out first time its great, good deals, good offers and a good choice. However (Like easyjet) if it starts going wrong it's a slippery slope...

If you know what you want then it is just a matter of beating the sales rep out of his commission, the end of the day the basic service is provided by one of the networks not us. One thing for example is take the insurance, then cancel it next day, he will make his commission and give you more. Also never deal in store. Go into store for a look at handsets then deal over the phone, if you are savvy enough to watch what your being talked into, the deals are better.

Never take a redemption deal if you can avoid it. It's got better since watch dog and trading standards got on top of it though. If you don't mind an 18 month contract you can walk away with £150 cash in hand at the moment for a new subscription for handing in your old phone, charger, etc...

If you do go for CPW (I won't make a penny either way BTW!) then if the deal is right then look at O2 purely because I have alot more options when dealing with O2 problems than other networks. Any other network the probably go direct. We will price match other deals on handsets but not on tarrifs.

I'm due for renewal soon (I think :? ) so I'll maybe try it on for a deal like that. I currently get free broadband through them too (inc wireless modem), the service for which has been pretty good. One of my mates has had nothing but trouble with orange lately, reckons they are utterly rubbsih, but in 8 years, they have given little cause for complaint from me. :D The few problems I have experienced have been resolved quickly & efficiently.... can't really ask for more than that.

Just see how far the are willing to be pushed. Mention the deal that dezzy is on, they will have a hard time justifying not giving you the same deal.

BTW Orange have some of the worst dealer support on the planet :roll:

Dom if ur phone bill is fairly high it's always worth going thro to the disconnection dept and asking what you would have to do to move to another network.

You'll then get through to an "win back" advisor who should be able to give you a good deal to stay.

..........i thought mine was good til i saw Dezzy's!!! :evil:
Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.

....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?
