Trouble converting to mp3

Post by gorrie » Wed Mar 07, 2007 8:51 am

Right... I tend to use ITunes as my player of choice on my PC. Wife uses Windows Media Player.

I use Nero for burning mp3 discs... no problem.

Anyway, the wife has been downloading tunes from 'Tesco'... and they come in Protected WMA format. I wanted to make an mp3 disk up for her, but I can't convert/import them to mp3 via Itunes as it moans about the protected bit.

Bit stumped how to get around this.... I guess a long way round would be to burn a standard music CD with the WMA files, and then rip off that to mp3 (might work).

Any ideas of a better solution?

Andy.

Search on google for software to remove the DRM protection. I've used some for iTunes that works pretty well, can't remember the name though. I'll check at home tonight.

i thin there might be a program that will do this;

Write to a CD image file
re-write in to WMA files (with out protection)

Bacially the same as the CD option.

Also you'll need to covert the WMA files to work with itunes.

Cheers.... yep, when I import normal WMA files in to ITunes I convert to mp3 at the same time. It's just this protection nonsense that causing me grief.

I'll do a search for software on google tonight Simon/Andy, but if you remember the name that would be great. Really can be bothered burning discs to get around this.

I have advised her to start using Itunes/Itune Store in future .... :roll:

Always worth checking for DRM protection - one of the biggest issues we get when peoples MP3 players acn't play filesback properly!

I've asked one of my support guys to see if he can remember. Will let you know.

our forum (http://www.amp3.co.uk) is always worth posting on if you have any issues like this, as some of the members have a scary amount of knowledge in this field, a bit like SE really!;

here's the exact topic discussing this;

Si... I tried that software. Works for protected mp4's... but not WMA..

Back to square one.. I can't convert the WMA's at present since they are protected. I'll try the old copy to cd method and see if I can then rip as mp3.

Edited: Found a way round it. Simon, you have PM back..
