Short time later the Bomb Squad arrived to take over proceedings .Found the whole thing abit boring (endless procedural waffle , just blow the fecking thing up:? ) after a while, so I left them to it .

Saw great pics from Kabul airport where there was an old Mig on the flight path with live ejection seats so to prevent the locals trying to take down a herc with one the bomb squad was asked to deal with them.

The local commander asked the bomb squad to "Put a bit of a show on" for the local big wigs who happened to be visiting. Apparently it takes less than 3 grams of C4 to disable a seat, they used something ridiculous like 30kg instead.

The resulting mushroom cloud caused panic amongst the locals and they never found a piece of jet bigger than a postage stamp....

Apparently the best mix is 50/50 high nitrate fertilizer and diesel. Works a treat, or so I am told....

Reminds me of the time me and my mate had to clear a Squadron of helicopters which had just returned from a Air display. The rest of the squadron had gone on weekend leave so we were left to our own devices

Our trawl from the helicopters (Wessex 5's) included Thuderflashes, Flares, Smoke bombs and other interesting stuff. We sneaked the stuff back to our barracks and decided it would be useful in getting rid of some rats in a stream seperating the barracks from the airfield itself. We found the rat holes and poured the contents of the various pyrotechnics down the holes and in true cartoon tradition we left a trail of gunpowder (or something close to it  ) . We then lit this and it looked great as the flames and smoke raced towards the packed rat holes. Then there was an almighty bang and half the bank of the stream went showering up into the air in a billowing cloud of smoke

Certainly solved the rat problem but then we heard sirens and saw blue lights in the distance. The only place to go was under a small bridge in the stream witha couple of rat survivors  We lay there for what seemed like hours until MOD Plod and the firecrews gave up the case. We found out later that Air Traffic Control had a plane on approach and had thought it had crashed. By the time they raised the alarm the plane appeared through the cloud of smoke. That should have put us off playing with stuff like that but it didn't, then that is another story (and quite a dirty one at that)
