Sounds fun on there, stationary for two hours North of the Bridge.
I feel embarassed at the thought of Scandanavia reading this, the first little fall of snow of the Winter and our main arterial road from Southern to Northern Scotland becomes impassable.
Someone has just looked out of the window, and a gritter is on its way.

Well I was in Oslo last week and things are just as bad.tut wrote:I feel embarassed at the thought of Scandanavia reading this...
Winter tyres are compulsory and the taxis all pay extra to have studded tyres (which are really impressive) so the locals are OK but Polish lorries caused mayhem...

Totally agree Tut . . . It's amazing how a bit of wind, heavy rain or snow can bring this country to a standstill. I hate all this "don't go out unless you REALLY have to" crap that you hear on the news when there's a bit of bad weather. That's a load of nonsense . . . people should just get on with things!
I was in Switzerland over New Year there and they have no problem with it at all. The roads are completely clear because they have plenty of snowploughs and gritters. Plus, people change to winter tyres (or chains if you're in a really snowy area) so they can cope with the weather.
You're right . . . it's embarassing!

Ironically we are off to Switzerland tomorrow, and probably have more snow here than in Wengen!
Our pavement gritter showed up at about 11am. Supposedly our route to the nursery is part of a "priority" area, huh, some chance. And the boys with the flatbed full of grit and shovels just showed up here at 2pm...when all the snow has already melted from our cul de sac road
I drove over to Blackburn in the Golf, had a bit of fun on the higher bits of road but nowt that decent care & attention couldn't cope with. It's all gone a bit nanny state...and as our winters get warmer, and snow rarer, people's ability to drive in less than perfect conditions will continue to deteriorate, sadly.

Sorry to hear that. I guess it was someone else's fault if they ran into you? Are you okay? Much damage to the car?Karen wrote:Went crash, bang, wallop in the BMW today as someone hit the back of me! Derek has recommended a skid pan course, I take it this is so that I can steer out of any future situations that I find myself in! Oh the joys of snow, steep hills and BMW's eh!
Dominic, thanks for asking. I'm fine, cars got a few scrapes/scratches to the bumper etc., and the alloys got a nice "scrape" on it where it hit the kerb. Have to say that the person that hit me was quick off the mark with the insurance company on the phone with the details of where to take it for repair along with the offer of a courtesy car all by 10.30 am (the bump happened just before 9.00 am)! What service from Diamond Insurance which I believe is specifically for women? Wonder if they'll cover the Elise when the insurance is up???Dominic wrote:Sorry to hear that.
