1,000 mile service
1,000 mile service
My 1,000 mile service is looming.
The plan had obviously been to have Leven do it.
I'm now faced with a trip to Carlisle. (?)
What are people's thoughts on just getting it done by an Edinburgh based independent?
Might I be leaving myself open to potential warranty headache if something goes wrong?
TIA

Craig Moncrieff, his stamp is worth more than a lotus stamp. David Hayton in Carlisle are a shower!

Re: 1,000 mile service
A lot depends on how long your are going to keep it I think.
I would have no issue at all with a CMC stamp, however some buyers are a bit precious when it comes to FLSH etc.
I do not think Lotus is allowed to void a warranty if a service has been completed to their recommendations but I could be wrong.

Re: 1,000 mile service
Nightmare. Maybe you can persuade Lotus to countersign CMC stamp (under the circumstances) if you send the book off to the factory after the service (and the invoice too, maybe) - unreasonable to make you travel to Carlisle, especially as I don't suppose the 1,000 mile service is all that much - probably you can get it done same day and return home again. But I understand the FLSH predicament ...

Re: 1,000 mile service
If you’re going as far as Carlisle already, I’d look into other Lotus dealerships with stronger reps.
Then make a weekend of it
(Lisa and I actually did this years ago - in the dark days of Murray Lotus before Craig helped restore order there, we went to Formula 1 in Newcastle and turned it into a wee holiday!)

However Formula 1 in Newcastle is either no more or is no longer a Lotus dealer. Stoneacre in Newcastle got the franchise post Formula 1 but were dropped or pulled the plug, and key staff moved to Carlisle. You would need to travel even further South now for that weekend away!!

I thought haytons got F1 then moved the franchise to Carlisle. I.e. how they got the Lotus Franchise

Re: 1,000 mile service
That really is a bit of a nightmare. Completely understand the FLSH issue, especially on such a new vehicle. Although this is not a problem for me today it will be a problem at some point later this year. Driving to Leeds or Carlisle for a service is just crazy IMO. What I would say is , if I was buying a Lotus and it had a CMC service stamp it would not put me off at all. Heard nothing but great things about the level of service and professionalism.

Eric
i would contact Lotus and see what they say about using Craig.

Re: 1,000 mile service
Keep the car for life and use jim king or some other respected and well used by lotus owers locally or travel to Newcastle/other respected main dealer.
Re: 1,000 mile service
I have the abs and traction control light on and was going to arrange to take the car to Leven but I have now booked it in at Carlisle. It is a warranty repair or I would have had no hesitation in going to CMC.
I think it is just a wheel speed sensor so no big deal.
Carlisle is only 35 miles away for me any way.

Sorry to post the question and then disappear.
Thanks for all the replies.
I asked the dealer where I bought the car for advice.
The response is; "... it is perfectly acceptable and within the warranty guidelines to use a Lotus specialist, as long as they use genuine Lotus parts and follow the appropriate schedule".
Happy days.

Common sense prevails. Now let’s hope the Lotus dealership has been taken over too, although nothing about it in the press. Or if not another one springs up soon.
