Threads like this are exactly the reason why I seldom bother with this place these days.

Just don't read it, or ignore it.

Contribute in positive ways and 'make a difference'.
I agree though, had enough of political division and don't want to read it here either.

Any healthy debate, is good IMO, as it's only through discussion that we learn.
Just because people don't agree with others opinions, doesn't mean you should not respect their opinions, or their right to have them.
Keep it healthy, keep it fun?

Great, one question... Exactly who is paying for this?

Simple, the people who can afford it.
Many would argue that providing free healthcare and education, is core to reducing social inequality.

really?
did I miss the Scottish government running an ever larger deficit?
Did I miss the rest of the UK paying them more than the rest of the UK? (Barnet formula anyone?)
without the money from the rest of the UK, just how long do you think these freebies would last?

My argument with selective use of the 'facts' beats your argument with your version of the 'facts'.
I'm correct and you are wrong. You will never convince me. I am an expert and I know more about politics etc. than anyone else here, even though I work in IT blah blah
Etc.
Gotta love these threads.

Aah, you think us Scots see benefit from the £5bn spend on Crossrail? How about the £4bn refurb of Westminster when we already have a perfectly good parliament?

What makes you think they are free? On a cost vs value basis, I'm more concerned with the real value of health, education and a more equal society.

Does anyone ever change their mind after reading these threads? Just seems to be the same old arguments trotted out time after time.

No, shame really. If a valid point gets made by anyone those of opposing views will ignore it and bitch about something else. Failing that your intelligence gets insulted because they are right, you are wrong and in this day and age you have to pick a side and defend it to the death.

Nooooo. The old girl had been gathering a bit of pace recently which has been good. Do we need a "And another thing..." room for the political chat. Don't want to deny those who like it....but there's no winning at armchair politics so it's a bit moot.

LOL!
Holyrood - what a bargain that turned out to be.....
Westminster is a historic palace, you go abroad and see a picture of london, what are you likely to be looking at? carre to suggest how much money in tourism it brings in quite apart from housing the UK government (including the 56 SNP idiots).
As for Cross-Rail, it's of no benefit to me either, but I would suggest that a large proportion of UK tax revenue is levied on the people it does benefit.
