Interesting read - albeit Saward seems to think the overriding issue was the Bahrain GP vote, rather than the issue of Dennis deposing Whitmarsh as Ojeih was in hospital getting both of his lungs replaced, which most other outlets are concentrating on.

Whatever the reason, it seems it's been a breakdown in a personal relationship that's caused it - a shame that one of the standout figures in F1 history leaves on those terms...

you're not wrong...

I cannot comprehend just how they propose to replace him and not take a massive hit.

I kinda think it might be for the best. Having a 70 year old at the helm might well work for now (you could argue it wasn't really working, but that was likely down to more than just Ron!) but in the longer term it makes sense to bring in someone new.

I was never much of a fan of Ron, but it's hard to ignore, and not respect what he did for McLaren, he is a proper living legend, and (lungs-gate or not) the way McLaren have handled this is poor and surely won't do them any favours.

If they have a successor lined up, great. I wonder if they do.

Ross Brawn's not busy just now...

Can't see Brawn doing it as he's done it all already, and with his name on the side. No chance of that at McLaren, and obviously no chance of ownership otherwise Ron would have taken that route.

I can see Ross turning up in the FIA though, it would be a natural progression I think, and I'm sure he'd do well.
