It's not clear what causes it, but it usually affects people around 70-75 years of age and is rare in people under 50.

There's currently no treatment that can stop or reverse the scarring of the lungs. About half of people with IPF lived 1.5 to three years from their diagnosis.
"

Unfortunately it is terminal, but on top of that I was told that when they went back through my records, they found that it had shown up on a scan in 2014, but they had not informed me, so two years already used up.

sh*t Tut! I hope they're wrong mate as there were when they told my wife's uncle he had cancer, this was done via a phone call when he was away on his holiday this year! I sometimes wish they'd check twice or more before hitting folk with life changing news like this especially if they're not 100% it is that! I hope to see you on track next year and in years to come mate! :thumbsup

I don't imagine you'll let a minor ailment like that stop you from having fun.
Get some Laphroaig down you. I believe it cures everything. :cheers

Sorry to hear that Tut, however, I am confident that the doctor who made this assumption has no idea of your past, and how you always turn the odds in your favour, as I am sure you will again.

My Dad was diagnosed with COPD a few years ago, it's been a bumpy ride so far, starting with the panic of having what they say is an incurable condition, but he has come to terms with it now, i think , and is just getting on with things as best he can. It is very restrictive, and will never get any better than it is, but you just have to make the best of it. Something I am sure you will.

Will need to catch up on a road run soon.

Very sorry to hear this Tut. Have you any trouble with your breathing at all? Treatments that are now available suggest you could have a few more years left according to the British Lung Foundation;

"Before the availability of specific treatments, studies showed that almost half of people with IPF in the UK died within three years of their diagnosis. However, about one in five people lived for more than five years after they were diagnosed. Clinicians believe the treatments now available will mean that people diagnosed today will survive longer."

Well that's a bit of a bummer. Really sorry to hear this Tut.

My mother in law has been living with this for years and she isn't as hard as you (she might be, actually).

Chin up and stick in, I can't drink all the Laphroig by myself.

Thanks all, seeing my own doctor later this month as she is on holiday. The news was passed to me over a phone call, so it did not sink in until afterwards when I checked on the NHS web site.

I am also getting an appointment with a Specialist to talk it over with him and see if there is in fact any treatment that they have come up with. Just going to call the Motability Insurance fckers who took me off the Policy having been on it for six months, meaning I had unknowingly been driving without any cover. If they can not make an exception having been diagnosed with a terminal condition then I will see what the Daily Mail thinks of their treatment of a Disabled War Pensioner.

They like stories like that.

Tut

Been off here for a while sulking as the car is going on Friday.....but this brought everything into perspective.

Some people need to get out there and live life to the full but as you have been doing that since you were in nappies I think the best advice would be to go out there and do again the things you really enjoyed the first time round.

Get a run organised...I will find something to come along in....
