Hotel/B&B in Edinburgh centre with secure parking???

Post by marten » Wed Oct 19, 2016 8:30 pm

Hi all,

Early november I've planned to collect a car from a fellow SE-er :D
My mate and I would like to stay in Edinburgh on Friday night, before heading for ferry, the next day.

Can anybody recommend a reasonably priced hotel or B&B in the centre or close to the centre where we can safely park a Lotus Exige

Thanks in advance.

Marten

Urban village is pretty good, usually good value for money and has a large free car park, I live very close and have never heard of any car theft issues so your car should be safe there.
The hotel is less than 2 miles to George Street and about 1 mile from Stockbridge so not too far to walk or get a cab if you're heading out for food or a few drinks.

Another option is the Novotel which is on the outskirts of the city.

The advantage is that the hotel is adjacent to the "South Gyle" tram stop which means its a relatively quick tram ride to get in/out of the city.

I also noticed the Novatel in Edinburgh City Centre indicates it has private indoor parking (at a charge) however I have not used the hotel so do not know whether you can pre-book and what the parking is like: http://www.novotel.com/gb/hotel-3271-no ... ndex.shtml

Only issue with the Ibis Budget is that its very basic. Even my Indian developers complained when I based them their for 2 weeks !!!

I love them. Basic is good for a swift stopover. At £30 a night it's tough to beat :-)

My first choice for business. And used to great effect during Frolic 2016.

I expect that a longer stay might get a bit boring though...

(I'm at the Glasgow one tonight!)

This place is OK. Rooms are a decent size - our room was a bit hot and when opening the window were able to smell the smoke from people smoking outside the main entrance. Not ideal.
The tram stop is also next to Edinburgh park train station which is a lot quicker than the tram to get into the centre.

Cheers for the suggestions guys, at least I've got a nice selection of hotels now to choose from.
It's always better to use the knowledge of local people or people who stayed there before, instead of looking at Tripadvisor

Yes Tut, it's Martin's car, he's a really nice guy and his S240 is the perfect replacement for my S1 Exige which i just sold
Can't wait to get behind the steering wheel, but still have to wait another 3 weeks....

we recently drove our elise down and stayed at Malmaisons near the river edge... off street parking provided. 5 mins taxi to centre (£8), but the canal has loads of bars, pubs and good food all ready there. recemmended! didnt have any issues with the lotus etc.

PS. nice car... glad to here its found a new home :thumbsup

As I am off to sunnier climes I have to look at all the options and keeping the Lotus was not really practicable.

Never been a huge fan of American muscle as I prefer cars small, light and fast, but when in America......went and had a look at this last time out....

frighteningly quick with the soundtrack to go with it but also frightening in the bends....might just have to go with the flow though.....

The engine on that's too small. If you're going to embrace american muscle you need a Hemi. You'll get a nice 6.2l supercharged V8 Dodge Challenger for similar money to that Mustang - http://www.dodge.com/hostc/bmo/CUD20160 ... powertrain

Ford Mustang was my dreamcar when i was a kid, my neighbour used to drive a V8 Cobra with the big Cobra sticker on the bonnet.
I was so impressed that i went to the toyshop a few weeks later to buy a scale model and after glueing it together sprayed it in the same colours

Isn't it allowed in the US to put the 0-60 times in the datasheet or have i missed out on that
