Post by tut » Tue Oct 11, 2016 11:47 pm

The Insurance Assessor came around today and approved the estimate of £6.5K from Dicksons of Forres for the repair work.

Seems a lot for a door and a sill. Check www.deroure.com for prices. It has not been a hassle Mark, looked at the DIY route initiallybut decided to get it done properly. The only thing against it is you have a claim afainst you, but when you are paying £1,600 anyway, WTF.

The cost is probably down to the amount of work required to remove and replace the sill - apparently it's a major job to do. That's probably what pushed mine to Cat D and why I had to buy a sill and just use a section to repair rather than have the damaged sill removed and replaced.

Is £1600 your insurance premium or a repair quote you received ?

Just a little worried what next years insurance will be if I put a claim in this year

£1,600 was for Insurance renewal, same figure as last year due to the disqualification. £6,600 is the repair cost.

I know I mentioned this somewhere else, but I had a fault claim last year with a value over £30k (ouch) and it put my premium up by less than a tank of petrol, so it isn't always as bad as you might guess.

I found the same after N3 yellow Jim. This time I had just paid my new premium when I put the claim in, so it should not take effect until next year.

However I have really backed myself into a corner, 76, disqualification, six points, one write off and a claim inside two years, can not drive my Motability car, only option will be an Invalid Scooter soon.

Holy Cow Tut, £1600 a year insurance...... Should you not just stick to your mobility 850cc hybrid  That's a mental premium mate but to be fair you have a mental car and are.. well, erm I'd best not say lol

New Rover S2 front clam is £2.4K eeeks.. my excess is £400 on my new Lotus policy if i claim off that or £150 if I claim off my other policy that hit me lol.... so non fault claim £400 wife fault claim £150..... but will renewal be much more for fault claim either way one of my insurance policies is paying....

Will there be any discernible between the two?

Should I accept a repair to the clam or go all out for a replacement? All damage is below the seam.. I could also just pay and repair it myself....... Nae idea what to do if I'm honest, all advise welcome, sorry Tut for slight drift here

:cheers

Dickens body shop just rang to say that if I wanted them to, instead of just spraying the damaged side of N3 they could do the whole car for £350. No brainer.

Fortunately the damage caused by the cone at Alford and the garage wall at Dijon? were on the near side so that was covered by the Insurance. I had just asked for a quote for that from the local garage so that is a bonus.

Thought about that Andy. Fitting a new front splitter from junks and they get badly stone chipped, plus I have to think about the condition when she is sold on.

That is a real bummer as I never gave a flying fcuk before as I have never sold an Elise, but will try the S1 Car-Bra when I get her back to see if it can be made to fit an S2.

ps:- does Craig have a contact that does the film protection?

Craig has a contact that does everything. He got my film replaced for me not that long ago after my neighbour ripped it with his 4x4

The bra is pretty rare, I'd imagine selling it would go a long way towards funding paint protection film.

Film wise, does Defendall / RPM Morgan / Revolutions / whatever they are called now still do it in Perth?
Mine has held up pretty well with only a couple of drags on the sill, and some scraping underneath where the nose has bottomed, and it's been 6 or 7 years now I think.
