Gumtree - a waste of space ?

Anyone else find this ?
Trying to buy a replacement fiesta alloy wheel (or even a set) I've sent chats on adverts that are restricted and text'd others. Must have enquired on over 10 adverts no one replied.
Have phoned 4 people, 2 go to straight to voicemail, I've left messages a couple of times, 2 people I managed to contact one said I couldn't view until next day, phoned as I was leaving next morning to be told it is sold, 2nd guy said he would send photos, he hasn't I've chased by text and phoning and said he will do it soon, that was over 3hrs ago. Ironically he moaned he just wants rid of them, yet he can't be bothered to post a picture of what type of wheels they are before I drive 20miles to see them

I've found similiar behaviour last time I tried using it.

Yes,it's full of arseholes. eBay suffers from arseholes to a certain extent too though. The public are just arseholes.

It's full of bell ends, however it's worked well for me selling several things in the past 6 months. Writing a decent advert and using decent pictures and starting that you don't want to trade for anything (not even a PlayStation whatever) goddess a long way.

I've found cars and car related stuff a nightmare but been successful with other things when clearing out the garage, loft etc.
Best ever reply was when I put my Boxster S on there, with little hope, but it was another avenue for sale. Got a text asking if I would take a 10 yr old Audi A4 with 186k miles and a burger van in part exchange.

Similar experience when I was selling my old Audi A4 and my burger van....some guy wanted to swap me for a bloody Porsche!

I've had some success buying from Gumtree - I picked up an OEM media iPhone 5 snap-in adapter for my BMW for £20, when the cheapest on eBay was nearer £100+, but have also enquired about items & been ignored many times too.

There's a couple of local buy/sell sites in Ireland (DoneDeal & Adverts.ie), and they are quite amusing - The Irish have more of a bartering mentality than the Brits, and on Adverts you can make a public offer, which the seller has to accept before you can PM each other for contact details.

Many people seem to think it's okay to offer 40-50% of the asking, which can lead to some fairly heated exchanges...
