A friend of ours had their house burgled a few weeks ago. The scum poured some kind of acid in the eyes of their little poodle and then kicked him round the room. He might lose the sight in one of his eyes. The poor thing is terrified and hides when he's home. The scumbags also did their best to destroy what they couldn't steal. Remarkably all of this happened in the space of 35 minutes as our friends were off work doing some DIY and went out to the local Homebase.

We're quite remote where we are and at the end of a long drive with fields all around. I'm away a lot with work so it's always at the back of mind that someone could have a go when the family are at home. While we have a big dog with a big bark he is the very definition of the dog with the bark worse than his bite.

Like Neil says leave the car keys where they can be found.

Jesus! I pray to god that these absolute F$£%$£$££G T$$SSER£! get what they deserve for doing this. What I have in mind is quite unlikely unfortunately unless we had the same laws as saudi arabia.

Where are you based, roughly?

They family have lost some precious items in the theft but none of that matters given how injured little Alfie is.

South Cambridgeshire...that said, on balance, I wouldn't want us to have the same laws as Saudi Arabia under any circumstances!

Surely it would be alright if we adopted their punishment laws on theft!

As the forum's champion for the digitally challenged, I'd disagree.

That's not to say I don't think they're utter cnut. Sorry to hear Benny, even just the once or twice I've thought I've heard someone it gives you a real start.

Public hanging is perhaps too far for some but at present, the punishment is so lenient they don't give a monkeys if they're caught.

Kelvin that is truly shocking. why would anyone do that.

I would hope Maisy would keep anyone away from ours. but who knows what they would do. then again they could just show up with a ball and she would love them.

Thats bloody awful to hear about Benny, damn right chilling to bone. Glad everyone is ok. Security alarm and CCTV with hidden storage sounds like a must. Not worth taking any risks.

All the best
Scott

I can think of nothing worse.
We have an ADT monitored alarm. Best thing about it is that it has a loud chime that sounds when you open the front door. It's a bit annoying at first but you soon get used to it.
It means no one can sneak in the front door if we accidentally forget to lock it. The dogs go mad when it goes off too.
Then there's the 5 D cell maglite....

I have an old deaf springer spaniel and an alarm system which only gets used when I'm away...

I bought a smallish very powerful Cree torch, not for defence but for checking out the land and walking the dogs at night.

However if that was shone in someones eyes, it would not only blind them but could damage the retina. As a bonus it travels at the speed of light. :D

Try putting it on strobe, very disorientating especially if someone has been in the dark.

I had a strobe on the front of my bike and it also had the effect of hiding a concrete bollard which I ran into.

Remember as soon as you chase its premeditated and not defender.

IMHO if someone is nicking a smart car they have done it before and while dumb they probably know their trade. They should know that when the see Ir glow from the corners of my drive it is cameras recording them. They probably saw them when they were scoping the place.
