SNP look set the get a landslide on the 1st preference votes so the rest of the parties will be relegated to List selection.
There are some worrying stats around about the level of support the SNP are still achieving but the honeymoon period can't last forever and they will be found out once they need to implement further tax increases or austerity measures.

Question: if an austerity party reduces taxes for the higher paid but the anti-austerity party cancels that tax reduction, which is worse?

Answer: they are all fudnuggets

P.S. I didn't present the conservative party's plans for local taxation.

Their plan is to turf all disabled onto the streets, sell their houses and use the cash to finance local government for the remainder of their only term in office.

(I made that up because actually the Scottish Conservatives plan is the same as the SNPs - in fact Ruth Davidson claims that Nicola Sturgeon stole her homework and then said that Ruth had copied hers).

Robin

There's a great thread going on in PH at the moment about how this difference is generating a 52% tax band. What I hadn't realised is that the NI is tied to the 40p rate, and that's reserved to Westminster. So what this means is earnings in Scotland that attract the 40% (but not UK) will also see a higher NI of 12% (2% in UK) so it's a total of 52% tax for the Scottish bit (32% in the UK).

I also love this about how tax works explanation :)
Suppose that, every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to £100.
If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this...

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing
The fifth would pay £1
The sixth would pay £3
The seventh would pay £7
The eighth would pay £12
The ninth would pay £18
The tenth man (the richest) would pay £59
So, that's what they decided to do.
The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement; until one day the owner threw them a problem.
"Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by £20." Drinks for the ten now cost just £80.
The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes.
So the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free.
But what about the other six men? The paying customers? How could they divide the £20 windfall so that everyone would get his fair share?
They realised that £20 divided by six is £3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer.
So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so the fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings)
The sixth now paid £2 instead of £3 (33% savings)
The seventh now pay £5 instead of £7 (28% savings)
The eighth now paid £9 instead of £12 (25% savings)
The ninth now paid £14 instead of £18 (22% savings)
The tenth now paid £49 instead of £59 (16% savings)
Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.
"I only got a pound out of the £20," declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man, "But he got £10!"
"Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved £1 as well.
It's unfair that he got ten times more than I!" "That's true!!" shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get £10 back when I got only £2? The wealthy get all the breaks!"
"Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison. "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!"
The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.
The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they
discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!
And that is how our tax system works.

I have been telling anyone who would listen ( no one) that the SNP were as far right as you could be without wearing a Tory rosette. But somehow they re-invented themselves as left wing - to fill a gap vacated by Labour, got support of the great unwashed and then wondered how they can sell right wing as left wing to keep their support

Vote SNP, the anti-austerity party that has overseen 9 consecutive years of front-line budget cuts in every local council through the steadfast refusal to increase the council tax in a huge austerity policy move. Money had to come from somewhere so accelerating council services declines. Most SNP voters just do not see what they have voted for beyond Independence debate. Just makes me laugh, then cry, then laugh again at how easily they have suckered people in.

I can't believe that people continue to be taken in by the spin but apparently they haven't seen through it - YET. When it comes the realisation will be indicated by the stratospheric collapse of the SNP. I just pray that it happens before they achieve their ultimate ( and only) goal of Independence.

I just wish our elected representatives would tell the truth and tell it how it really is. Would people vote for someone who said " we have no money and huge debts" and admits when they make mistakes?

"Fudnuggets" I intend to use this in all political discussions from now on.
