Silverstone Auction

Post by douglasgdmw » Thu Jan 21, 2016 7:02 pm

Folks,

Noticed there is a bit of Lotus content in the Silverstone auction in case anyone is wanting to add something special to their garage or house:
http://www.silverstoneauctions.com/race ... ots/pn/all

Admit that it's difficult to get past the cars but some other nice bits of stuff for the cheaper end of the auction.

Range Rover L322 4.4TDV8
Land Rover Series 2a softop

Some nice stuff there.

Are you window shopping on their site George, or looking to buy?

Purely window shopping unfortunately, wish I could afford it as that Lambo is lovely!!!

Unsure of the prices as the Escort estimate seems cheap to me?

Love the Merc Cosworth Evo :love :love :love . My dad used to have the standard Cosworth, I used to take it to school. I very much doubt that a 17 year old would be able to get insurance for one of those now

The estimate for this has to be waaaaaay off, surely?! I would expect at least double that. It would be in my garage at that price for a straight buy.

Suspect its the usual auctioneer's tactic of price them low to get the punters interested and in the door.

Wondering how much it will take as a lot of people are being more cautious with the market now as it has kind of flattened out.

I'm going to this on Sunday, if anyone fancies buying the Ruf Flatnose or the Integrale, and needs it driving back up to Scotland....

Just hope no-one asks you to drive this back:

as it may take you a while to get back up the road. Would love a Land Rover S1 but suspect this will easily achieve £25k+.

Ha - Had a go of a 110 Perentie the other day (Aussie spec ex-forces Land Rover with 3.9 litre Isuzu donkey under the bonnet / 4 speed LT95 gearbox) - I can see the attraction :thumbsup

Just registered to bid - One piece of memorabilia has my eye, but dunno if common sense will kick in - Will get a feel for what things are going for, when I get there.

(Looking forward to the Group B demos too :) )

Looking forward to plenty of pics.
Is there a little French 80's car up for auction?

Mais non!

All going to plan, it's coming to live in Ireland when the house purchase (hopefully) goes through, and I have a proper garage to keep it in.

The UK number of Citroen LNA's will drop from 3 on the road, to 2... Sniff! :leave

Good fun yesterday, and I succumbed to the automobila I had my eye on :P

I'm not usually fussed about autograph hunting / collecting, but part of me has always wanted the scribble of my favourite 80's rallyist - Given he died leading the Tour de Corse 30 years ago this year, his autograph isn't easy to come by and when it pops up on eBay and the likes, they're asking many many hundreds of pounds. (I suppose he was seen by many as rallying's 'Senna').

I spotted some Team Talbot Motorsport memorabila, and wondered why they didn't make more of the fact that x3 of the items were signed by Henri Toivonen - I thought they might go for decent money (especially this being the anniversary of his passing), so was surprised to be the only bidder, and got them well under estimate. :)

I realise this is still a waste of money to most, but I'll get a couple framed and stick them in the man cave

Image

Henri's Sunbeam Lotus was on a stand inside, and I had a good chat to his first team manager, who ran him in a BDG'd Mk2 Escort for a season, before Talbot snapped him up. (Interesting bloke :) )

Image

Some interesting stuff out on the 2 mile special stage, including a Delta S4

Image

(Not Henri's this one - Miki Biasion's from the 1985 Monte Carlo rally)

One source of mild disappointment - They were offering 'Rally Car Passenger Rides' for £20 for half a dozen laps. I queued for 20-30 minutes, got two places from the front, when the clerk of the course came over and told them to stop signing on passengers / rides were over for the day. I sloped off, but the guy queuing behind me didn't and must have badgered them, as 10 minutes later he was stepping into this, for a good few Andy G / Ariel Atom-stylee oversteery laps...

Image

:?

C'est la vie!

(I'll stick some other pics up in the gallery, if anyone's interested - I'm on a course in Plymouth, so only brought over my wee Canon G12 compact with me = Not easy snapping fast moving things!)
