Motability cars.

Post by tut » Wed Feb 03, 2016 11:52 pm

Under the new Government scheme everybody who has one at present has to be re-assesed to see if they are still eligible. So far out of 34,000 checked, 15,000 have lost their cars including a double amputee.

My new Volvo XC60 is ready for collection on the 18th, and thankfully as a Disabled War Pensioner they can not touch me, but I actually feel bad for those that are far more deserving and needy than I am that are losing their means of mobility.

The system has been abused so about time the people operating it got on top of the issues. As usual they will probably make an arse of it and some genuine users will be penalised.

I knew someone who leased out their motability car to a family member, a not uncommon scam. If the cars are not getting used or are abused its quite right for the privilage to be removed.

I heard that on the radio the other evening and was listening as my mum has a mobility car. I did also notice that they said 60% of those who appealed won and got their car back.

They sould re-assess Blue Badge Holders at the same time, another scheme prone to abuse and mis-use.

Difficult to know where to start with that story, maybe they should spend as much chasing big companies and banks for their major abuses as they will chasing the disabled for (in the over scheme of things) very minor abuses.

Having said that my gardner had a mobility car and, well he was my gardner. He wasn't a good gardner, being quite lazy and seemingly not knowing very much about plants, but he was cheap (provided I paid cash). He did complain about how much of his benefits he had sacrificed in order to drive a brand new car. In hindsight I suspect he wasn't declaring all of his earnings. Look the point I'm making is if he is capable of doing a full days work, well 3 hours or so, in my garden I don't think he should get a free car for not being that good at walking.

I realise that the second paragraph somewhat undermines the message I was putting across in the first paragraph.
