Re: TV streaming devices ?
I bought a chromecast last week and it seems great so far. Lots of apps for it which mean you can still use your phone or laptop to do other things as it just links straight to the router or I can just send a tab from the chrome browser or the whole screen of the laptop or phone to the TV, which means I can stream or play pretty much anything I can open on my computer. It also came with a NowTV movie pass (for two months, I think...).
It was also only £25 from Currys.

I was also tempted by the Chromecast Audio, but it doesn't seem to sync the audio to go along with a Chromecast.

Re: TV streaming devices ?
On Netflix there are 3 sub-accounts - so No.1 son has one, No.2 son has one and the 3rd account is "family" - so each of the three sub-accounts has history and state independent of the others.IanD wrote:Cheers guy, will look a bit more at Amazon Fire tv sounds interesting loaded with kodi but also covers off the basics without doing anything. Wasn't sure if using Fire TV and Amazon prime would become messy it being too clever and predicting stuff, passwords etc as would be using my sons (sorry 'family' account) for Prime so interesting to hear Robin you do the same and found it ok.
Thanks istoo will PM you to discuss the PS3 further, has been good enough so far and like for like replacement would keep it simple for now.
On Amazon Prime there is no such thing - but to be honest only the kids use that most of the time.
Cheers,
Robin

In the kitchen over WiFi (that's where the Amazon fire is) I get anything from 20-60mbit/s depending on what else is happening in the house. From my desktop upstairs I seem to get a steady 60mbit/s other than when the kids are streaming (i.e. alwaystut wrote:What is your download speed Robin?

Re: TV streaming devices ?
I've had a chromecast for a while and used it for streaming movies from google play or wuaki - pay per view. Should probably have Netflix by now.
I've just setup Plex and it's an excellent piece of software. So I can stream all my media via the chromecast to my ageing non smart TV easily.

How long have you been on fibre for? Kids apart, do you have a use for 60 over 10, i.e. do you download films etc or stream HD content?robin wrote:In the kitchen over WiFi (that's where the Amazon fire is) I get anything from 20-60mbit/s depending on what else is happening in the house. The work place has moved Tut. Working from home (WFH) is something most of us office bods need to do these days. Add in a professional wife and you quickly use up 10mb between you on a HD Citrix session and VoIP between you. Chuck in smart phones and tablets that constantly download data regardless of use you can easily chew through it. I really noticed the difference moving from 10mb to 30 on my fibre.tut wrote:How long have you been on fibre for? Re: TV streaming devices ?
My Virgin broadband has just been upped from 50mb to 70mb.
Re: TV streaming devices ?
Not that long Tut - maybe 6 months? Honestly cannot remember - PlusNet were doing a great deal.tut wrote: How long have you been on fibre for? Kids apart, do you have a use for 60 over 10, i.e. do you download films etc or stream HD content?

Sanjoy is half right - I use the bandwidth for work, but not for the normal Skype type stuff but rather for pushing data about - our code base is >5GByte just to get the code to the machine - sometimes I also copy whole virtual machine images back and forth - but 99% of the time I have no use for it (beyond streaming media, which only needs a fraction of it).
