Anybody heard of www.extraenergy.com? Just did a comparison and they are quoting me a saving of £967/annum on my present usage until Jan 2017 with a £25 exit charge. 9.1p/kWh and 23.8p/day compared to 13.1p and 23.5p/day with no exit charge from SP.

Can see no need for not changing over, have no info on Customer Service but by all accounts it does not have much to live up to.

Good ol' google.

Never seen 13 pages of 1* reviews before, and that was only because they could not give 0*. Well worth reading through as without them it would have been very close to me changing over.

When something feels too good to be true. It probably is. Well swerved.

9.1 per kWh is similar to what I was paying for data centre power! Granted a few years back.

Just checked with Mrs Bee - we use Greenstar Energy whom I've never heard of before but must be good cos they have green in their name :blackeye

Just checked GB Kerry, 10p and 23.4p, so if they are kosher then it would be worth my while changing.

No reviews really coming up.

That's the thing about the review sites, people only generally post on them when they have an axe to grind. There are 200 odd reviews on Extra Energy but they have a huge customer base and not everyone is complaining. SSE rate well on some site and bad on others but I have never had an issue with them.
So we will see if Energy extra are any good, if not then I'll switch again but worth a punt as they are promising £1500 a year reduction on our projected usage. Be interesting to re-visit this thread in a year to see what the actual savings have been.

I tend to agree with this, and yet my missus swears by things like tripadvisor. Folk rarely post after a fab hol....

tut wrote:I have actually had no probs with SP Kerry other than this trying to charge me too little. Quite happy to change for a better deal but have never understood why users try to make it so complicated. I pick the lowest price per unit added on to the daily charge, and so far that has been SP.

If anyone can find a better deal than 12.86p/unit and 20.55p/daily charge then please let me know.

tut
Tut, it depends on your usage - for very low users you maybe would be better off with a lower daily charge; for very high users vice versa. Also you need to consider exit terms, contract duration, fixed vs flexible, etc. You'll probably do quite well if you switch frequently because somebody is always offering a short term deal.

For example, here at Iddon Towers we have recently switched to Sainsbury (actually British Gas). 8.4p/kWh 26p/day. We use a lot of electricity, so this is a lot cheaper for me than your deal.

Cheers,
Robin

P.S. Won't know for sure because haven't got a final bill from Spark Energy, nor do I expect one for the next year or two (they are very bad at keeping up with accounts, invoices, meter readings, etc.). To give you an idea they were charging me some enormous number when we first switched to them (less than previous supplier, but still enormous). It became clear that that was way more than our usage so I asked them to adjust it. They said that they couldn't do it without some internal review. So I told them to reduce it to £5/month until such time as they could work out what it should be - it took them months and months. Since then my account has randomly been anywhere from 9K in credit to 3K in arrears - all with the same DD paid monthly!!!

Difficult to believe their incompetence, even worse than my experience with SP, although that has only happened at Tut End, at TT they were fine and changed the DD occasionally by small amounts to keep pace with usage, so that when we moved I was a few hundred in credit. I only quote my usage as an example Robin, which like Mike's is quite high as we both use electricity for heating, so price per unit has the biggest bearing.

I will be using 20K+ units a year, you are paying 5p/unit less than me, which equates to a £1K saving. Your daily charge would be £91 more for me so barely comes into it. Just about to check what my rates would be with Sainsbury's, they have never come up on my radar, but you are probably getting a discount for dual fuel.

Why is you electricity usage high as there are just the two of you, your heating and cooking is gas, and I can not believe that you use the dishwasher, washing machine, tumble drier as much as Verian, the bloody things are on every day? You have a big house as we did at TT, but apart from the above there is only lighting which is peanuts nowadays compared to the rest.

tut

ps:- just checked Sainsburys and their plans are all dual fuel except for one electricity alone, which is slightly more expensive than mine. To get the 9p rate it has to be for dual fuel.
