Let's just say it took some persuasion
I trust you informed the designers that they missed a trick with the steering wheel?

another 2 seconds faster round hethel. Bloody hell, it must be about a minute quicker since they first released the S1 elise <BG>

Resurfacing it made it a minute quicker due to not having to watch for holes in the runway

Jeebus 56k without options!!! Been too long since I looked at new Lotus prices (and an even longer time before I look again!!!!). 6 months out of work certainly forces a change in perspectives.

Thing is, the current entry level elise is circa £30K IIRC, which 20 years on since the S1 was launched at £18K seems to me like great value. Most hot hatches are now in the £20K - £30K bracket, with plenty more than that. Think I must be getting old as I keep seeing car prices and think "How much??!!??"... it's just the way things go. The V6 exiges can seem pricey, but consider what you are getting, especially performance wise and the price is maybe not that crazy. I don't really look at the v6 exige as a tweaked elise any more, but in spirit, see it more as an Esprit replacement. More so in the context of it's price.

£18k in 1996 is £31k now. Considering how much faster and refined a new Elise is compared to the original and how much cars have gone up in general, new Lotuses are still competitively priced.
I agree with your sentiment too Dom the Exige is so much more than the Elise that it really is a separate model and the Esprit is probably a relevant comparison. Even in size the difference between an Elise and a V6 Exige is amazing.

When the first Elises came on the market in '97 Dom, OTRP with leather seats and the other normal options, the price was around £23K.

Indeedy, but I was comparing entry level with entry level. :thumbsup However, £23K then compared to £30K now, even better value now.

As an aside, when I bought my first, nearly new elise, Graeme told me that it was one of the most expensive S1 elises he had sold when new, with every option (including a genuine one off paint job) making it originally over £30K. T'was a '99 111s, special order paint, hard top, leather etc etc
