Spa GP 2016 Accommodation Ideas

Post by Ryan » Wed Nov 04, 2015 1:42 pm

Looking into heading across for the Belgium Spa GP next year for a long weekend, taking in the Nurburgring in the process. Anyone been before and recommend areas to stay?
Our partners will be going as well so shopping locations and the likes would have to be considered.
Open to route ideas as well?

Pistonklaus (SP?) restaurant at the ring is essential. :thumbsup Steak on a stone, nom nom....

As for accommodation - I can't really remember, but I'm sure others will be along in a minute.

Think we stayed in hotel Zurburg in 2010? It's at the Ring but only 60-90 mins from Spa. Robin refuses to stay in Belgium :-)

+1 several times over for Pistenklaus Rest

Did similar a good few years ago now (2001). Stayed in Germany (I also will not stay in Belgium unless I have to) in a place called Monschau. Very old, very cute. Not overly car friendly but if you are staying you can drop your gear off and then park outside the village. Google the place for images to get an idea. It is in a hole in the countryside. Hotel accommodation is typically German countryside. Old, efficient and clean. Not overly pricey either. The real boost I found was that because of the location of Monschau you stay away from all the main roads and the drive to and from Spa on the Sat and Sun was doodle, and pretty picturesque. No traffic until you hit the circuit. My wife though the place was great, if a little spooky of an evening......

The drive to the Ring is also not too far and again a nice drive away from main roads.

Superb Lotus country. Unfortunately when I was there it was in a NL hired Seat something....

Was that the year that we covered Ian Wilson's car in snow, we stayed at the Hotel zur Burg just up the road from the Pistenklause?

Hotel zurburg used to be nicknamed faulty towers due to the owners. :)

Another option is to stay on the Moselle valley at somewhere like cochem. Lovely area with castles. :)

We stayed here for the Spa GP a number of years back.

It is a little bit of a distance away (think a 20min drive) from the circuit but there are a couple of cracking back roads to enjoy on the way to/from the hotel

The place was really nice and very clean and the advantage that as its self catering you can just grab something from the super market in the village for your breakfast. Only slight downside was that the wet room was a bit of a pain to clean in the mornings but thats 1st world problems for you :D .

If there's enough of you this place is awesome - plenty off-street parking for nice cars too....and only a short walk from the Centre of Spa and eateries and boozers and the oldest Casino in the World.

12 of us stayed here last year (with 6 exotic conveyances) for the 24hrs and it was perfect :thumbsup
