The Referendum. SNP. Tories. Independence. Etc.

Post by Jeremy » Wed Oct 07, 2015 3:30 pm

Good afternoon,

I remember an interesting thread on here in the run up to the referendum and thought it would be good to see where we all are just over a year down the line.

With the benefit of hindsight, is your viewpoint now the same as it was back then ? Has anyone swapped allegiances ? Is Scotland a better or worse place now ? Will we have another referendum or has the Nationalist movement hit a peak watershed moment ? Is the ongoing uncertainty stifling investment ?

Interested to hear what people think.

Regards,

Personnal opinion (of course):

The SNP are being shown up (especially with recent revelations / allegations) to be the completely average, single issue, political-trump-science, shysters I knew they were, even without the grinning buffon that is Salmond. Without Sturgeon and legions of The Converted they'd probably have lost a good wedge of support by now..

The blusterous oil price, Scottish budget-destroying crash we were told wouldn't happen, happened, but still the Nats won't really admit to it and propose ludicrous things such as FFA (but not for a few years till things are better, of course) and seem determined to see us all worse off to the supposed benefit of "social justice"

Again as predicted, the YESNP have complely ridden rough shot over the once in a lifetime democratic decision we made, while drawing 'Red lines' using faux major polictical issues like Trident renewal to justify their lack of genuine progressive policy..

Last year I conceded some of the potential benefits to independance. Now I'm pretty sure even those are a complete waste of time, and all the referendum has seemed to do is polarise and segregate political opinions into black /white, your with us / against us, so from that perspective, its was ultimately a negative process - hardly surprising in retrospect given it was based on purely nationalistic values..

Do we have to do this again?
Frankly I'll be amazed if anyone on here will have changed their opinion in the last 12 months, or will admit to it if they have.
Personally I think SE is a better place politics free.

Being a bed wetting socialist I have nothing to say :-)

I agree with Comrade Neil, though, that nothing much has changed in 12 months. The referendum's only long term legacy might well be the unintended destruction of the Labour party ... no bad thing.

Cheers,
Robin

I have learnt since the referendum you are either a yes voter or baby raping rich scum who dines on the corpses of the oppressed poor

We are going to have referendums every few years until we give the correct answer

My heart is set on leaving scotland as the SNP will never be out of power as they have the easiest job in the world and people like me are seen as enemy number 1 as i question them. After having folk at work telling me i should fcuk off out of the country i am sick of the nationalists pricks

Oil price goes down = Blame westminster and the tory party
Education gets worse = Blame westminster and the tory party
Health gets worse = Blame westminster and the tory party
it rains = Blame westminster and the tory party
Police service goes to crap = Blame westminster and the tory party
Tax goes up = Blame westminster and the tory party
War in syria = Blame westminster and the tory party
Have a bad curry = Blame westminster and the tory party
taxes goes up = Blame westminster and the tory party

And the room temperature IQ YES idiots will lap it up

The neverendum is hurting scotland as would you invest in scotland when we have senior members of the SNP stating they will nationalism some industries by force of law?

Think that I have just written recently that if there is another referendum it will be a yes vote.

I haven't changed my mind but I do think that another referendum would be a mistake. I agree with thinforth that a neverendum is damaging, less so with some of the other stuff ;)

Wont you be voting for Comrade Corbyn anyway? Y'know, the Britain-hating, terrorist sympathiser?

SNPs policy is to blame everyone else and do nothing.
My opinion hasn't changed since the referendum but my belief has grown stronger.

I also think we don't need this discussion here so I've made my only comment on the subject.

Thought the Anglian water deal in the paper this morning was interesting.

I actually find it very interesting that some of you guys are saying along the lines of 'let's not go there'.

If there is a thread that is of no interest or relevance to me, such as the new puppy one, I just don't click on it rather than try to shut it down.

But the thing I find interesting is that this is symptomatic of the way politics in Scotland seems to have become with the rise of nationalism. Once upon a time it was quite common for working men to have a civil conversation about politics. The nationalists have this insular view where everything is black and white, and if your view differs you are ostracised or labelled as scum.

That's all very well but stifling any form of civilised discussion is a very unhealthy state of affairs and it's sad that this is what has become of our country. I totally get that for an easy life you just keep your mouth shut but I find it quite alarming that this is what Scotland has become.
