Mont Ventoux Cycling

Post by C7Steve » Tue Aug 04, 2015 8:39 am

Programme on BBC2 tonight at 21:00 about Scots Paralympian David Smith MBE and his quest to cycle up Mont Ventoux three times in one day.

Good timing before the Frolic trip.

A group of us did the Cinglés Du Mont Ventoux Challenge on the 6th June so the 3 ascents in a day, (Bédoin, Malaucène and Sault). Tough old day but great experience :thumbsup

How long did it take you Sanj......about two hours?

Record for the 24hrs is eleven I think and the Pros cycle to the top from Bédoin in just under 60 minutes.

I will have to do it now. Only if Hendeg and Ali are though.

Well I haven't been able to get out on the bike recently but if David Smith's story doesn't inspire me to go out and do it then I don't know what will.

Thisis the other place in town.

I don't know your place as its the other side of the mountain! Been going there for the last 12 years, outlaws live in Mormoiron, got married there etc. so if I can help at all let me know.

OK managed to pedal about for just over 2hrs today, how hard can it be?
What kit do I actually need to bring for this? Shoes and shorts?

Helmet? Buy a shirt there with the mountain on it.

Ali,

Orange to Bédion is 37km, Bedion to Mont Ventoux is 21km, so 58km, which is about 36miles just to the top. Say three and a half hours. (One and a half from Orange to Bédion then two hours up Ventoux)

Just from Bédion to the top of Mont Ventoux would take you about two hours to cycle up and under one hour to decend approximately.

Orange to Bédion and back would be 37+37=74km. About 44miles at say 15mph avg would take about three hours too.

Total distance would be 116km or 72miles if cycling Orange-Ventoux-Orange and about six hours in the heat.

You better get some training in between now and Wednesday

I don't even think that Gary knows where his bike is though :damnfunny Help the Aged :thumbsup

Feck that Steve, I was banking on hiring as close as possible!

I assume they hire helmets although I have...just space in the car.
