Hi Uldis, I hope you are well and please give my best regards to "the current Mrs Uldis" ;-)

On the contrary Campbell!
I went through a lot last year.
Was arguing at work too much with one of the directors, broke my ankle badly (two surgeries) and because of this couldn't see my mother who was very ill.
As it turns out she passed away before I could go to see her, which made me really sad. Then I went to Mexico for the funeral and then that director I was arguing with managed to get me fired.
Then I snapped a tendon in my shoulder.
I realised many things, amongst the most important of them is that I can't really get along with the way things go in this society. This means I don't think anything like the normal people I work for.
I don't care about status, luxuries, pretty things and don't have that drive to get more and more expensive stuff. Working to be able to skate on holidays doesn't really cut it for me.

So, wife left me, both my parents gone, no job (and knowing the people that I know, no prospectus in this oilfield environment)... I decided to drop out of society and be a full time skater bum!
Selling the house and what is left after paying the mortgage will split it amongst my daughters and Anna, and will leave with what I can fit in the Voyager to skate around in Europe for an unspecified length of time :)
Work? will be skating basically, and organising one of the gnarliest downhill races in the world.
That and developing my own brand of skate-specific parts.

But no, I can't do "normal" anymore. It's just what I have to do.

And the Exige... its sad that I made the decision to sell it, but with this lifestyle how could I keep it?
It would be better off in the hands of someone that will love it as much as I did :)

F*ck me mate - not a small life-change!

Not sure whether to comiserate or congratulate, but certainly seems like you're chasing what you love rather than what society says you should, so more bloody power to you :thumbsup

I kinda rage-quit life a few years ago and bummed around Europe for a while. It used up lots of money and achieved nothing, but it was a great life experience!

I recommend Slovenia for your travels. Stunning scenery and weather, huge adventure/outdoor culture, and pretty cheap too.

All the best to you! Don't forget to update SE on your travels and tell us where you are.

Thanks!
Mont Ventoux? been there, but it was raining. Will surely go again and try to skate faster than my personal best which is about 62mph
Should be able to get 70 easy. The corner after the main straight is the only thing to worry about ;)

And Tut, yeah, I thought there was something odd about you too! :D

Hope things work out for you, sounds like things have been tough but you're leaving the sh*t behind and going with the flow (literally!?). Best of luck with whatever the future brings.
