65" Monitor
Re: 65" Monitor
500gb, let me know the format needed for the TV.
You know you can pair blue toof headphones to your iPad mini and stream radio from that? Potentially higher bit rate than the TV transmission.

Imagine the heating bills in Tut Towers if you hadn't had the TV on?
Re: 65" Monitor
You' get life size porn on that.....tut wrote:????????????? WTF, was my initial response, but then read the reviews and when the picture was tweeked they were 5*. However I still thought who would use a 65" monitor, then realised I only use my TV as a monitor as it is purely a display for the Sky box.
My 60" five year old looks like it is on the blink, thick black line down the middle of the screen, so am I correct in thinking that I could replace it with this even though it does not have a built in tuner? The reviews are also mentioning 3D which I do not understand as I thought that had to be controlled by the tuner.

Good idea or not?

Re: 65" Monitor
40" 4k monitor I purchased earlier this month does 60hz via display port 1.2.
Big difference between the usability of high screen resolutions at 30Hz and 60Hz IMO. Could not use 30Hz for desktop operating system normal operations without getting a sore heed !
60hz minimum for gaming , 120hz preference for some.

Re: 65" Monitor
Not ordered yet Sanj, still reading posts on the AV Forum where there are eight pages on it.
Still a bit confused as to what I can actually watch in 4K with just the monitor and Sky box. Obviously not on Sky, but what about Netflix and utube which I presume are streamed directly to the Monitor from my Sky router via Wi-Fi?

Re: 65" Monitor
You don't have the bandwidth for 4k streaming at Tut End. You'll need 25Mbps+ for reliable 4k streams. Well, maybe you might just get away with it at 22Mbps... I've never tried, so can't say for sure.
But to be safe, assume if you want 4k content, you'll have to download (or at least buffer a chunk of it first) it to the Mac and play from there. If you're happy with 1080 streaming then it's not a problem as worst case you plug in a Chromecast if the built in Hisense apps are a bit naff.
EDIT: TV's own Youtube app can't do 4k anyway. http://websurfaces.co.uk/2014/12/05/his ... utube-app/
So whatever you do, if you want 4k it will have to come from the Macbook.

Re: 65" Monitor
Thanks Graeme, 4K is actually just a bonus if/when I can get it, quite happy with HD for now.
More important is the 65" new tech resolution screen, 3D, Smart facilities, built in wi-fi, and I presume it will handle 4K from external sources, ie a 4K Blu-Ray player and Sky if it ever happens. Interested to know if anyone else would consider one for the same usage as myself, as opposed to a three times more expensive TV.

Re: 65" Monitor
Not used an analog tuner in years. TV is via a 720p Sky signal and backed up blue rays are played via an El cheapie cyclone 4 box. I would imagine there will be a 4k version of this box along in a while.
Kids have been knocking 7 shades out my old LCD so tempted but Mrs Sanjoy is not a fan of big TVs despite it still bring smaller than our bookcase. I really should get a hdmi switcher to flick the TV to the projector as rarely put TV on up there other than big sports events.

Re: 65" Monitor
Sanjoy, I used this splitter http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/2-way-hdmi-splitter-n08gf instead of a swticher so it permenantly feeds my HDMI source to both devices. Means I can turn the Projector on anytime I want and the feed is just there.

Re: 65" Monitor
Is this the latest version Sanj? Mentions 4K compatibility.

Re: 65" Monitor
It certainly sounds like it is although typical lack of detail of the 4k output.
It will play anything you throw at it while your TV will only support certain file formats and codecs.

Re: 65" Monitor
H.265 you can get round with an external box which will be cheap. The HDMI 2.0 30hz thing I need to look at.tut wrote:Still debating, new models out in Sept which will be a lot more expensive, seem to be TV's, so not sure if there will be a Monitor replacement.
Present model 680 drawback is no HDMI 2.0 or H.265, and only the no1 HDMI socket is 4K, not the other three. Not sure if any of these will really make a big difference to me, Sky box can go into 2, 3, or 4, and a 4k 3D Blu-ray if I ever bought one could go into 1. Also a Smart TV box in line would probably add those on.

The thought of buying a branded TV for the kids to knock lumps out of....

Re: 65" Monitor
I can't think of any way around the 4k@30Hz problem. I don't know if it would matter or not without trying it with a ton of different types of content (24fps movies, hi-def 4k demos, random DVDs, games etc).
The thing about waiting for the next model is, I don't think it will be a bargain when it comes out; the current model took a long time to get down to £900, and isn't that good a deal at £1300.
So, I'd be very tempted to grab the bargain £900 current model, acknowledging it's imperfections, and if it's unlivewithable, then sell it on ebay in a year when the new model comes down to £900 again.
