311?
Re: 311?
I tend to agree with Craig - whilst I could no doubt not do this car justice if I had it thus making my opinion academic - I think ultimately the more fun is had with less power/less weight - so the 340R is perfect; a tuned 340R is even more perfect, etc. Shame the engine was so rubbish ... somebody needs to fit a high power reliable light weight engine to a 340R ...

Saw it at goodwood, didn't do it for me, and the engine sits too high, dictates the back of the car.
Surely they could have dry sumped it to get it lower, and 82k
Also the evora 400 had the camouflage bizarrely?

Give me two months and I should have something to show, even hear! Not sure about the reliable bit though....robin wrote:I tend to agree with Craig - whilst I could no doubt not do this car justice if I had it thus making my opinion academic - I think ultimately the more fun is had with less power/less weight - so the 340R is perfect; a tuned 340R is even more perfect, etc. Shame the engine was so rubbish ... somebody needs to fit a high power reliable light weight engine to a 340R ...

Yes sir although been on hold for the last few months. Started up again with Z Cars this last few weeks and hope to have an engine running in the car before end of July with the car drive able maybe late August.Ferg wrote:Is the Z car thing still happening Craig?
Although its in the S1 so not as light as the 340R (Maybe transfer later) Im still hoping to have under 700Kg (I believe engine and box is around 65Kg lighter than K plus PG1 but needs additional transfer box) with a Gen 2 Busa and around 200bhp (standard) should be a nice road/occasional track car.
When it comes to the 311 it will be insanely quick but accessible by only a limited few and those who have the funds to purchase an even smaller few will be able to use the vehicle to its full potential. Not that you have to use a vehicle to its full potential but for me I need to get close to it before I enjoy it. That audi engined thing was no fun....
I bought my first standard S1 elise back in 2004 for a couple reasons. It was cheap, made with a standard engine from a family car and got performance through lightweight. Having just left Uni so very much finance orientated I knew that I could repair the car myself and because the engine was standard it would be relatively reliable but with potential. Because of the relatively low cost everyone could aspire to owning one and this in turn started the huge owner following and clubs dedicated to tuning and self repair, the whole thing I loved about the car. Lotus has changed from this market and Im not sure there is anything close to what the original Elise started, maybe some of the kit car market has this feel but with much smaller numbers. I still love what Lotus are doing and really hope they succeed its just they have drifted from why I entered the fold.

Re: 311?
It's chargecooled, same as Evora 400, vs Exige which isn'ttut wrote:How have they increased the hp of the Exige's 345 to 450?

Also Ive been told they won't be offering any upgrade kits for the current Exige like they did with the S2. They say it wont fit, I beg to differ but there you go
Must mean there is a Exige 400/450 in the pipe line else the 3-11 won't have anyone to race against in cup Europe.
Prepare yourselves for a £80k Exige

Re: 311?
With respect Graeme I have fitted a 2-11 set up in an S2 Elise. Others have fitted Honda engines in S1 and S2's. Someone even fitted a V6 in an Elise. Retro fitting a charge cooled supercharger in the Exige would be relatively straight forward given the factory have already packaged it in the back of an Evora which has less space.
It's a mute point anyway as the option doesn't exist.

Re: 311?
By all means I don't doubt a skilled aftermarket setup (like your good self) can do it in some capacity- but as a manufacturer (liability, homologation, front structural changes, 3 year warranty) - we can't
