Moved over to the dark side

Post by douglasgdmw » Mon Oct 16, 2006 12:29 pm

After much appreciation for the S1 Elise (111S) I have finally taken the plunge and moved over to the dark side of S2 ownership.

My wife picked up a nearly new 111R from MMC when I was away on business. Arrived back in the country on Saturday, picked up from airport (in the car that has decent bootspace) and then we went up to Aberdeen to see friends/family in the Elise.

Initial impressions are really good, was expecting it to understeer more (as 111S had 195's) but the handling is just as good. Really impressed with it over the less even surfaces as it does not crash about as much as the S1 did. Really loving the cam.

My wife is so much happier that she does not have to live with a very loud elise that rattles the neighbours windoes, decat + 3.5" exhaust was a bit rude.

Downsides so far - what an absolute pig to clean. Own fault for choosing a white elise 8)

So if you see me/my wife around Edinburgh, give us a wave :D

Greg,

Yeah must admit that it was something that drew me to the car. They make the car look so much better.

Would never have thought the white would look good on the Elise but really chuffed with it.

Will have to be out with wash/sponge + bug/tar remover ever weekend now :)

Cheers

looks awesome in white. 8)

Its amazing the comeback the colour is making. My other half was murmering about how cool the A3 Sportline looks in White!!

Even just 3-4 yrs ago the local audi garage were laughing about a woman who specced her TT in white. They asked for £xxxx a few grand upfront in payment coz if she walked away they could never sell it on. Last week when I was back in someone had specced an RS4 in white. Cool :thumbsup

Shoomer - agree with you that it is very much in vogue at the moment. Some ways I hope it does not catch on in the elise as it is nice to have a colour that you do not see every day. Hence why I am sure some people got Krypton green for their elise.

The only real issue that is resale time. Some are easier to sell than others. If you take the Burnt Orange (which I think is lovely) then when you come to sell it may be harder to than a titanium elise. Some people are put off by the more vibrant colours but others love them. Also sometimes it can command a premium if you are very lucky - if you want a silver elise you have a choice of 10 at any time, want an orange one then maybe a couple available.

The one thing I will say is that you do get people moving over more on the dual carriageway. Something that was always a problem with the Norfolk Mustard S1.

Schoomer,

Excuse my ignorance but do you not have just 2 colour options with the GT3 anyway?

With white being in vogue it would not surprise me that so many are being bought in that colour?

Schoomer,

Cheers for that, would definitely be tempted with the speed yellow.

Have they changed the colour options as I must admit that I was sure one of the previous Gt3's were only available in 2 colours (1 of them being white).

Cheers
