TV compatibility.

Will a UK TV work in Canada, or do they have a different transmission protocol as well as voltage?

Was curious myself so googled it and after a couple of sites viewed.......no positive answer, depends on the TV apparently.
Expats abroad I think was the last site I trawled thru',which basically told me the obvious north american 110v and the transmission info for Canada but the thing was/is that a lot/majority of TV's( maybe all electrical equipment) is made for a worldwide market so will operate from 110v-220v and on differant transmission types.
Have you tried specifically googling for info regarding the exact model of TV.......Will my Samsung blah, blah work in Canada??
Sorry I can't shed any more light but intrigued to know now :cheers

Will shipping it over there not prove uneconomic, especially if there's any chance it won't work? Electrical good tend to be cheaper in the USA, so I assume Canada too ?

Voltage wise it should be fine as uk appliances tend to be dual voltage - easy to check for the exact TV too.
From what I can see they transmit using a different standard to here so it won't work, but thats easily fixed with a set top box.

The safe answer is no. Although the digital is a lot more compatible than is used to be, there are legacy NTSC issues and the frequency bands used are different. Technically a good quality telly might be able to deal with these, on cost grounds (ie the licences for the particular technologies), most televisions are built for a particular market and can only work in that area.

In fact there are few technical reasons why a digital television monitor shouldn't be able to display all frames rates, video sizes and colour systems from the world's television standards.

Most modern televisions are just big monitors with an HDMI cable that connects to a set top box. The set top box does all the transmission standard nonsense and your TV monitor just needs to be able to display at the appropriate resolution and frame rate.

I agree that it is hardly worth the effort of sending it, though ... also watch out for import duties!

Cheers,
Robin
