Isn't the Exige and Evora engine also Camry heritage? What's not to like about rock solid reliability ;-)

I fairness to Mark, he has a smiley in his post about the Camry DNA ;-)

Yes, tongue firmly in cheek :) . If it helps Lotus sell more cars, especially overseas, all well and good. Why didn't they call it Exige IPS though?

Review in PH: http://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-brit ... view/31582 In summary: it is still a rather dim-witted slushbox unsuited to the car, but it was the only option available to Lotus, it will probably sell, and of course the car is still very quick.

Hard to form any kind of accurate opinion from a youtube video but the downshifts look and sound OK with the obligatory throttle blipping, the upshifts appear to take an eternity. In a 1980's Ford Granada 3 Speed slushbox kind of way.

Who in their right mind would contemplate this over a PDK equipped Cayman GTS is beyond me but if it shifts a few more cars in some overseas markets and generates a bit more profit for the company then who are we to judge ?

I'm guessing that's the plan, Jeremy.

And I imagine future evolutions of all Lotuses will feature modern flappy paddles as model development allows.

We have to remember that Lotus use "customer engines" and so have different model development constraints to, oh, say, Porsche.

Plus theirs are made in Norfolk from Turnips, not in Germany from Kryptonite ;-)

As I understand it half of all the Evoras sold abroad are IPS. I've driven one and it's a fairly sluggish affair on the up change although not so bad on changing down.

That said, the manual gearchange is hardly rifle bolt snickety snick. It's one area Lotus really need to improve on across the range.
