There is an honest person left in Glasgow....

Post by RDH » Tue Oct 10, 2006 10:17 pm

I was parked off George Square tonight - I had to go to the office for half an hour!

So I got back to the car to find someone had reversed into me! the front clam is cracked just below the badge and round the grill!

Here's the shocker - a note had been left under the windscreen!
I phoned the number on it and got the guys Mum! She said her son had just phoned to tell her what had happened and how he was gutted to have hit such a nice car!

So I got all the insurance details - and called up my insurance company ( Elephant :? ) - they'll apparently sort it over the next couple of weeks while I'm in Dubai!

The woman at Elephant was more shocked than me when I said they'd left a note!

Any recommendations as to where to get it fixed - they mentioned Allied? Anyone any experience of them? :?:

You`ve been lucky there! Will it be a new clam ? Just thinking, if its only going to be a repair that wouldnt be more than £500 tops - maybe better to not go through insurance (get the guy to give you cash, saves his no claims and means you`ll care less if it happens again over winter or if someone else hits / sits / kicks it)

Allied replaced my front clam on my S1 and I had no issues, but I know Sassy had problems with them.

According to his mum - they have no excess to pay because there's no damage to their BMW 3 series estate tank! :?: ( but she's not telling her son - she's going to make hime sweat a bit longer! ) Their NCB is apparently protected!

i still can't believe the guy left a note!

But, if it goes through insurance (and regardless of the fact its not your fault) wont you then have to tell your insurance co who will bump up your premium?

I can't be ar5ed with the hassle of sorting it all out myself - I'll let the insurance co's sort it out!

Shouldn't affect my premium in theory!

JJ's right, you will both have to declare it on your insurance and it will bump up both your premiums.

I'd get the quote for the repair, see what it's like and give them a call and explain the above. Of course you're under no obligation to do that whatsoever and could just push for a new clam. However, the guy was honest and decent enough to leave a note so personally I would give them the option.

I was hit while sitting at traffic lights. The other driver admitted liability and his insurance company sorted out all the repairs. I informed my insurance company at the time and later forwarded a copy of the other driver's insurance companies letter where they comfirmed they were covering the claim in full. My car premium was not affected and on applying for renewal insurance quotes I declare it as a no blame accident. What did annoy me was that my motorcycle insurance went up straight away when I informed them of the accident and it took me ages to get it sorted out with them.

You've not had much luck with people vandalising/bumping/sitting on your car recently Rob!

I also can't belive he left a note! I'm with you on this one . . . I'd just go through the insurance companies. That's what they're for!

These incidents have made me think . . . do you think it's better parking your car at the side of the road or in a car park? Car park risks door-bashing whereas on-street risks front clam cracking. I feel a poll coming on . . .

Hope you get it all sorted mate.

Yeah but I don't have time to go round garages! I asked whether it'd affect my premium - they said no!

I've got 8years fully protected NCB - so i doubt it'll have any effect!

The guys mum , who's insurance it is wants to do it all through the insurance co - so i'm quite happy with that -

Somebody hit the rear of mine on Saturday morning and left it scratched and a small crack. Maybe it was the same guy and he just felt guilty about doing a lotus twice in a week!

I used Allied for a small crack on my rear clam and they said it would need replaced. They did a good job but they weren't quick!

Good to hear that the guy was honest enough to leave a note! :thumbsup I've never had an accident (touch more wood) but my dad banged his car slightly, and as I stick him on all my quotes it has never bumped up the premium when declaring it.

They've just called to say Arnold Clark were going to be the approved repairers -
After previous experience with them I said no way!
So their next alternative was Nationwide, on Maxwell St?
Anyone had any experience of these guys? :?:
