End of an Era - Keir Roundabout challenge

A standard test of any potential addition to the Boag fleet is booting the car into Keir Roundabout from the M9 and entering the A9 turn off .
With your foot planted, you then see what speed you can attain by the time you reach the crest of the hill.
The record is held by a Bentley Continental GT which I owned briefly
Simple .............but great fun.

As of today, Perth and Kinross have installed average speed cameras which measure your speed between the roundabout and Balhaldie/Little Chef Filling station.
I believe that this is part of the average speed camera programme which affects most of the A9 to Inversnecky

There's something about that bit of road that makes booting it up the hill great fun.

Didn't know the average speed cameras were coming that far South, thought they were starting at Perth - big brother is watching indeed

I believe the system is scheduled to be operational later this month, so still time to set a new PB in a remapped Cayenne...

It will affect me significantly, living in the far north and traveling to Edinburgh every 4 weeks or so. I've been keeping an eye on the big signs stating the camera's aren't in use yet.... Time is ticking though

Actually doing the maths, at around 4 hours to do the 260 miles to Wick, the theory goes I don't need to worry about the cameras

Good theory,... but depends on which cameras are paired - it will be possible to average over 60 on a stretch of 5 or 10 miles and get a ticket - if I understand what I have read about the operation of the cameras correctly.

My best friend famously launched his E30 325i Sport off the Keir Roundabout whilst attempting some heroics aiming for the Dunblane turnoff......ended up 600yds into the field with fenceposts beautifully embedded in the windscreen.....thought the throttle cable was snapped until he realised his foot was still fully applied to the throttle

Sadly he'd borrowed from the bank to pay for it a couple of months earlier....3rd party cover ensured he was still paying for it a long time after it had departed....!

I'm up to Thurso fairly regularly to visit family and it really is getting tedious....the cameras not the visiting bit.I try and go to Inverness via Glencoe now if possible,just depends if I can get away early enough to beat the tourists.
Beware of speeding around easter ross,got the whole lecture/blow in the machine,etc,etc just over a year ago around 11pm around Alness.Was told I'd been reported regularly speeding in the area and other nonsense......I was in a green A6 4.2 avant and the 2 youngish officers were desperate to get me to verbally admit to speeding.......think my lack of "committing" myself meant that I only got the lecture.........but please be aware,I've seen unmarked and marked police parked up in some "sneaky" places on the road north from Inverness.....in the dark..waiting.

Yep, still got the rs6 and nearly 3 years on it still gives me the giggles accelerating at full chat. The ever evolving remap helps too It should be Avus silver but living on a farm pretty much guarantees its various degrees of brown.

I've been doing the round trip to Edinburgh at least once a month, but typically on the bike instead of the car. Not worried about the average cameras yet but every time I arrive at down south, going through the mail is like a game of NIP roulette last trip up I was really pressing on at night, only to be passed by a pair of police riders doing really big speeds. They gave me a wave as they overtook which was nice

Only speed trap I've ever seen here wad up by Reay, on a huge straight. Fortunately I was 2 up on the bike at the time and taking it easy. Scamera vans are just plain evil...

Noticed them driving up Saturday - Initially thought it might have been some form of ANPR system given the recent RT changes, but great to know its average speed camaras designed to keep us safe..

That route (which I do frequently) from Aberdeen to N. Lanarkshire must be one of the most heavily camera's routes in Scotland now, given the number of gatso's between Dundee - Aberdeen..

Was reading up about it last night, and it seems the average speed cameras are only on single carriageways.

Which pretty much puts an end to overtaking all but the slowest car on that section and will then lead to EVERYONE pulling out on the dual sections. The A9 is a sh*t road but the only saving grace from boredom is the occasional blast past someone.

Going home for christmas is going to be amazing fun
