Driverless lorries.

Post by tut » Tue Aug 19, 2014 12:55 pm

Coming to a road near you next year.

I suppose the one good thing is that they can not overtake each other. On the other hand they will travelling in convoy a few feet apart with only the front lorry being driven, the ones behind can eat their lunch or have a nap. Will they be able to legally use their mobiles?

Ok so you pay a premium for the technology but you still have a driver in each lorry so no savings there
What happens when they are approaching a motorway slip road or on ramp, surely a 300ft lorry convoy is going to make it decidedly difficult for other road users to either join or leave said motorway. Plus could prove interesting at traffic lights, roadworks, contra-flows, the list is endless.
Surely some things don't need inventing and this is one of them. Plus we already have it, it's called a train.

Is that a serious question?

So what happens if the one in the middle gets a blowout or breaks down? Do they all stop??
I'm concerned, as a bike rider I find truckers are the most switched on, having only one in charge and the rest doing their own thing is a worry.
