It's an identity card by any other name.
I don't think I've ever *needed* the photo bit. I use different id to fly - normally passport. I don't carry licence - if I'm stopped I use my 7 days to present it.

I'm happy to lose the counterpart, which i do keep in my wallet as i have to produce it regularly (hire cars - avis requirement)
What about folk who drive but don't want/need a passport, and vice versa?campbell wrote:Perhaps passport and license could be combined one day. 2 for the price of 1. Save two fees and help rationalise two depts down to one?

Re: Paper part of driving licence to be scrapped
Way more positives than negatives for me with the plastic part. Use it regularly for flights, collecting items from the Post Office, Banks, Hiring Cars overseas, the list is endless. My paper counterpart barely sees the light of day so more than happy to shred it and pay a small fee for the convenience of plasticrobin wrote:I still have my 1996 paper license, so I don't consider it "pointless" - I laminated it about 15 years ago
I don't need or want a photo license. Cheers, Robin
