S2 standard 6 spoke wheels in black?
Considering having my standard S2 wheels painted black as I feel the standard silver against the yellow car looks a bit dated and doesn't really match anything else on the exterior of the car. Done a bit of searching and it appears the standard S2 wheels were also available in black, the part number is D117G0024H. As it's a possible standard option I'm now even more keen as I'd like to keep the car original but bring it a bit more up to date and to my taste. Only thing is I'd need to get a colour match for the paint shop.
Has anyone on here done this or know where I'd get the colour code?

I would say go for it, it would suit the yellow. I recently did the wheels on my White Elan, just a DIY job in Satin Black but they came up looking really good, preparation for the paint is the main thing.
To me, black wheels look good if they are Matt or Satin, but glossy black wheels don't look so good, of course just my opinion

Good job mate, looks nice! Got a quote from The Wheel Specialist in Edinburgh for £288 drive in / out same day, full refurb in satin black.
I'm tempted but part of me is saying save the money for more important things should they arise...
Would be great to get an exact colour match on the OEM, maybe MMC could help with that.

I had my 111R wheels done in satin black. MMC did it prior to delivery. I also had the fuel filler surround and diffuser powdercoated black as well.

That's pretty much what I was planning, agree the diffuser is a must if the wheels are done, handn't considered the fuel filler though! Nice car mate, is it also Lightning Yellow?

I don't have that car anymore, it was Saffron Yellow, but my current Exige also has black and gold wheels (and matching body)
I always thought that the yellow/black combo worked well but think it is a good idea to stick to satin and avoid any glossy look.

Why not do them yourself?, its not difficult, as for the shade I don't think there can be too many shades of satin black but you could go to somewhere that mixes paint and ask them to copy a sample if you need it to be exact. The great thing about satin black is its very easy to touch up chips.

My VX was lightning yellow with the standard black wheels which had a kind of gold flake through them- sounds nasty but looked good in the flesh.
My brother has the standard Lotus satin black finish on his Exige and while they look good, they are much harder to keep clean than a good old fashioned gloss finish.

I'm sure a trawl through VX220.org would throw up the paint code for the LY wheels.

I'll have a look, cheers! Btw, do you remember your VX having a slight greeny tinge when viewed at certain angles. Some of the body panels on mine look slightly different in colour but I'm assuming its the pearlescent effect changing under differing light rather than anything to be concerned about.Stevoraith wrote:My VX was lightning yellow with the standard black wheels which had a kind of gold flake through them- sounds nasty but looked good in the flesh.

I have painted car parts before but i'm a bit of a perfectionist and I don't think I'd be happy with the results compared to a proper refurb and powdercoat.Jamie Satriani wrote:Why not do them yourself?, its not difficult, as for the shade I don't think there can be too many shades of satin black but you could go to somewhere that mixes paint and ask them to copy a sample if you need it to be exact.
