Easier knowing budget first, but I suspect a 996 would be in that ball park and plenty to choose from.

Obviously their is the IMS bearing to worry about but Hartech have a fix (although at a cost) to resolve that worry.

Lots out their so be picky and buy from the more reputable Porsche specialist dealers as you know you will be getting a good car.

He previously looked at a car around the £12k mark.

Would have a search on Rennlist and 911uk.com to get an idea of other common problems. Their are quite a lot of them around this price point but the issue is that when you get to this type of price point some people can afford the car but may not necessarily afford to keep the maintenance in tip top condition. So definitely be wary and expect to view a lot of dogs with high mileages (which they can cover easily but obviously makes it harder to sell on again).

Large number of specialists (which I think I have listed on this thread of ones I trawled through in the 964 purchase). Also try the Porsche Owners club for sale section as their can be coveted cars on here, but the owners will be asking more as they know the value.

Once your friend has tracked on down then get an inspection done by one of the local specialist, number of these in the central belt.

It's entirely possible I might be selling my 996 C4S soon.

It'll be more than 12k though!

Fits perfectly now... good ol' german engineering means it's only a couple of bolts and 10 mins work to take the dash apart and put it back together again properly...even for a hamfisted idiot like me.

Crap tentative ad now in classifieds.

I'll let fate decide what happens now.

so you carried out 'maintenance' on the dash. no way is it worth 12K anymore.

Correct. It's now worth much much more now that it doesn't have that annoying leather on leather squeak you love.
