I've had the car on track twice now and it does feel good although it is standard thickness, I wish I had asked them to go a little thicker than standard. The re-trim was £220, doubt they'll be able to find an exact match for the dash but a new replacement should be available from Lotus, or you could go black to match door cards or seats?

I know next to nothing about aero, but surely that won't help at all, and with a K in the back will it even go quick enough to generate downforce ?
Also, it looks absolutely horrendous!

There is a turbo on it, but I did not read the thread, so can't comment on the power, but agree, all that aero is way over the top, will give loads of drag, and looks horrific. Not really much point IMHO as on track, the splitter is too high to be effective - a smaller lower splitter would be much more useful, and on road, the front and rear aero will ground out everywhere. Would have been far quicker and easier to get some vinyl graphics for the sides of the car saying "I'm a fud and I ruined my car".

Whilst I agree that he's not gone about it in a very logical manner, what I will say is that he's going out and jumping into a motorsport arena with virtually no budget and a lot of graft from his own hands. Sure, I don't believe for a second that the car will do very well, but he looks like he's willing to give it a shot and learn in competition. So I'm not willing to ridicule him on that.

I loved his build thread on pistonheads - read it front to back over the course of a couple of mornings - sure some of it is a bit left field, but top marks for effort and commitment.
On the subject of ride height, in the thread it's clear that he has to raise ride height to use on the road, so whilst on the pictures it might look too high, on track it's 40mm above the tarmac which is as low as the TA regs allow (according to the thread - I know nothing about TA), so will be as good/bad as any of his competitors.
I have no idea about aerodynamics or the actual drag, but again the thread mentions a desire to use large splitters and diffusers because they give you downforce without adding the drag penalty of wings.

I thought the same.
Top marks for going any path that is a rebuild, especially as he can not compete unless he can do it on a limited budget. Without the enthusiasm they would all be out of the box cars.

some of his work is great but some of the Aero is way over the top.
I put a bigger front splitter on my 211 when i was racing and it took 10 mph off the top speed on the back straight on the old snetterton.

I guess the point is how much more drag would a wing have given (assuming you could mount a wing over the front wheels)? Also, all the aero is bolt on, so if it doesn't add any worthwhile downforce he can bin it and save a good load of weight (and drag).

It's always great to see someone going their own way. The further through the project it goes the more plausible it all seems. The wide reaction at the start was not different to what was said here. I do recommend you read through the journey whether you agree with it or not.
