I've had a nice email from Google telling me my Wallet accounts been suspended and will remain so until I verify my identity. Initially I thought it was some sort of phishing scam as they want a copy of my passport or driving licence plus a utility bill which is exactly what you need for a bit of identity theft. A bit of googling tells me it's genuine though. There doesn't appear to be any way of contacting google without first going sending them these documents as any links just redirect to the verification page.
Has anyone else been through this? I'm probably just being paranoid but I don't see why I should have to send them this sort of stuff. If any other retailer asked for it I'd shop elsewhere but having an Android phone I'm a bit tied to google for occasional app purchases. Obviously I should have got an iphone

Don't send them this information. If they don't want your business, take it elsewhere.
Cheers,

I use both, not been asked for it, yet. Will have a dig about my Nexus 7 tonight.

I thought Google wallet didn't work in the uk? Are you using it off shore? That may be the problem.
If you're not living on the edge you're wasting too much space!

I have used Google Wallet for years, but not regularly - haven't used it this year at all - so maybe it's some feature they've turned on, or maybe they've decided that Neil's account has been abused in some way. Either way, I would just start a new google account and use that rather than send them my passport (or a copy thereof)!
Cheers,
Robin

Well I managed to find a phone number (in the US) for them so gave them a call the other night. Got myself stuck in a loop in their script though - basically they wont tell me why they want me to verify my identity until I verify my identity

I can speak to someone in their appeals department if I phone back between 7:30 and 10pm Pacific time but I don't really fancy getting up in the middle of the night for that so am going for a google free life instead.
Have ordered myself a Mozilla Flame phone running Firefox OS so will see how I get on with that. duckduckgo search engine looks pretty good too. Just need a new email provider which is a pain as I've been using gmail for years
