I think someone's getting a lot of money for doing very little there!

you do understand that most of the work at Sellafield had nothing to do with nuclear power don't you?
Re: Hot air or realistic?
Of course I do, its a nuclear re-processing plant is it not? And you're point is?Scuffers wrote:you do understand that most of the work at Sellafield had nothing to do with nuclear power don't you?

Re: Hot air or realistic?
no, it's the site where most of our nuclear weapons research was done, the great pile fire was there, that's what's costing the money to clean up.Rosssco wrote:Of course I do, its a nuclear re-processing plant is it not? re-processing was all about finding a use for plutonium from the weapons programme more than anything...
Re: Hot air or realistic?
So what do the trains drag in on the flask wagons each week then?

I would assume from Dounreay?campbell wrote:So what do the trains drag in on the flask wagons each week then?
Wiki wrote:Due to the uranium and plutonium held at the site, it is considered a security risk and there is a high police presence. The fuel elements, known as "exotics", are to be removed to Sellafield for reprocessing, starting in 2014 or 2015
Re: Hot air or realistic?
I'll ask. My Father in Law works at Sellafield.

Re: Hot air or realistic?
Sellafield (windscale) was very much built originally for one ereason only but was not necessarily the only facility in the UK fulfilling that purpose. At the time electricity generation became a more serious option with the opening if the 4 magnox reactors shortly followed by the second 4 at Chapelcross. As far as I'm aware the main purpose of most of the plants at Sellafield now revolve around reprocessing, 'sanitizing' and storage of high level waste from domestic power stations. I don't believe much weapons research was carried out, just raw material production..

Re: Hot air or realistic?
If it was developed as he states then why have we never heard of it?
We are spending countless £billions on hydrogen fusion and detecting the Higgs Boson particle, when there appears to be already an answer.
