Many people are alive only because it is illegal to shoot them.

Very thought provoking but I'm not sure if it's meant to be humorous......hoping yes!!
Sunday's thought for the day....
I removed my post. I was in thought provoking mode when I wrote it but perhaps not really in the spirit of tut's post.

It was not completely tongue in cheek, but certainly aimed at those that 90% of us on here would happily see shot, and in my case would happily pull the trigger.

Tut, I have no idea what you are talking about. Others may also be confused. It does sound a little Daily Mail, though.

Got fed up with reading about the numbers of murderers, rapists, paedophiles, suicide bombers, drug dealers, baby killers, and the rest of the low life scum that not only get pathetic sentences, but are let out on bail only to commit the same crimes again.
Fairly easy to understand, if they are dead, then future possible victims will live.

Re: Sunday's thought for the day....
Ah, so it was quite Daily Mail then
I agree that it is depressing to have an ineffective "justice" system, however I also suspect that a much more aggressive system wouldn't yield the results you want and you're wrong if you think 90% of the population back a return to the death penalty (though the same 90% wouldn't blame a victim for shooting their offender in cold blood, I suspect). America has both the death penalty in many states and huge prison populations (per capita). It doesn't seem to have had a corresponding effect on their crime rates (which seem to rise and fall unrelated to prison population).
Of course for many of the sex/child crimes the people committing them aren't necessarily rational so it may be that beyond permanent incarceration (or death) there is little we can do to stop them re-offending - so maybe we should have more people locked up in secure institutions of some sort. Laws exist to do that, so maybe we should automatically classify sex offenders as insane.
Cheers,
Robin

I know there is no solution to it Robin as long as there are humans(sic) on the planet, I suppose it would just give me satisfaction.
However there is one action that could be taken immediately and that is not to let the extreme cases out on bail after they have been charged. How often do we read that they have been released and then committed the same crime a few days later?

ps:- it was 90% on here, not amongst the great unwashed.

You're bang on there Tut, this has been going on for years yet the powers that be can't seem to see it.tut wrote:However there is one action that could be taken immediately and that is not to let the extreme cases out on bail after they have been charged. A friend of mine was stabbed to death by an 18 year old back in 1999. This was a Tuesday night, the 18 year old had been arrested at the weekend and charged with attempted murder then bailed on the Monday. Attempted murder then became actual murder the very next day.
Justice?
