That is why it is often best to go with REIS if you have an upgraded car.
You have to have tracked it or yourself for them to insure you, so they expect the car to be modified and do not fanny around with the usual upgrades we go for, just interested in change of engine to give hp, and other upgrades can be declared in order to add value in the event of a claim, ie:- £1,400 Nitrons probably being one of the most expensive.
They are also still insuring over 25's, I called Mary to get a quote for adding Clare on to my insurance for N3 and it was £220.

Re: Shocks, chalk and insurance
A quick follow up, I got new collars for the shocks from Elise Parts and have now fitted them, not a five minute job but I am glad I did it. Most of the collars were not as bad as they looked but two were dire. I used a couple of spring compressors off ebay and in truth they were a bit clumsy. The biggest pain was getting the old collars off and the new ones on as they are a tight fit. I painted the springs and the shocks and got new bolts from Elise Parts also. All looks a lot better now. The whole car is held up by the small circlips holding the top collar in place! Total cost of parts was £92.00. If I could just sort out that blasted battery drain............
Re: Shocks, chalk and insurance
For future info, I bought a set of these to adjust the spring collar height (later dampers have a couple of different circlip positions), which worked perfectly:

A great idea. I seem to recall mention that Elise springs were more akin to bike ones!
