Does it really matter how good you are?. Main thing is having a go, and have some fun.

I think more of us could enter this and put our money where our mouth is :) :) :)

Agree mate but you have to remember we all think were better than an f1 driver. Do we even have a real racing driver on the forum?

power to weight may not cover all bases, but as Tut says.... nothing will ever be perfect.

David did pretty well, and he is fighting a losing battle against the noble, it has a far superior power to weight.

http://www.superlapscotland.co.uk/drive ... vidson.htm - 375bhp/ton
http://www.superlapscotland.co.uk/drivers/davidlong.htm - 318bhp/ton

Possibly the classes could be tightened/altered a bit for next year

A: 400bhp/ton +
B: 325-400bhp/ton
C: 250-325bhp/ton
D: 175-250bhp/ton
E: < 175bhp/ton

In the regs there are 15 classes, A-E broken into road car, modified and libre but all the cars have been lumped together, not that I think breaking them into that class structure will make any difference as it stands at the moment. Your probably right in reducing the BHP/tonne band, may need to tighten it further than 75bhp though, time will tell and you'll have a better idea by the end of year one.

I think if you get a wet event then the 4 wheel drive cars will have an big advantage I guess we'll find out at some point.

I agree with Rennie though, the sprint and hills class structure would be easier to police and your regs aren't that far away from that anyway.

Fluoxetine - "I bimbled round at the back in the Caterham Academy nine years ago, and raced in the Super Grads as well... :P "

Agree about tuition & advice - If I had my time again, I'd have squeezed in a lot more of both.

One of my main rivals was very ragged & slow at the start of the season, but employed Gordon Shedden to mentor him; he's now got a class record at KH in a Radical SR6 (51.6 seconds).

Back on the lightweight car theory...

A good analogy is comparing an empty supermarket trolley with one full of the weekly shop - everyone knows how quickly you can change direction at the start whilst following SWMBO on a zig-zag mission round Tesco :blackeye

Never had any instruction, other than Ali C watching me do some laps at Alford 'from the guardrail'
It was the one thing I know would make a difference to my driving - more consistent and more confident in catching it when nearing the limit.

tut wrote:Looks that way Clarke, mine was a NAT A open, ie non race, so either a B or an A would cover me, so may as well renew the cheapest.

What do you reckon on the shoe front? I do not have an up to date Blue Book but as Renny will recall this came up at every event in 2005, and was a bit of a pain as they did not have a leg to stand on(sic). It is not a fad or stroppiness, I have not worn shoes for over 40 years, and for fourteen years have never worn them in the Elise, either for road runs, trackdays or races. Never mind tenths, I would lose more than that if I put foot stranglers on, I would lose the feel for heel and toeing, throttle control and brake feel, and do not intend to change at this late stage in life.

tut
Nat A License should be fine, but I'd suggest you apply to the MSA rather than try to get it on the day as I think that you'll only get a Nat B on the day. Unless the car is fully road legal and taxed, you need Nat A.

Are all you Elises Honda (& turbo) powered? If so they will be in Libre category, so will need:
Full roll cage to MSA spec
5-Point harness

As for shoes,
S9.2.1. Throughout practice and Competition, all Drivers must wear clothing, helmet and goggles complying with K.9 to 11 or, where appropriate, the specific Class regulations for Drag Races. Overalls homologated to either FIA 8856-2000 or FIA 1986 standard are mandatory. Competitors are required to wear flame- resistant gloves (K.14.3(e)).
and
K9.1.9. Competitors are also strongly advised to wear Flame Resistant gloves, socks, balaclavas and underwear.
Plastic shoes (such as trainers) should be avoided.
apply, so I'll use you as an example for my Trainees when you set out of the car barefoot in the bay LOL.

It will be great to see you back

I raced Scottish Legends in 2008, also part time instructor at Knockhill while at Uni.
I built and ran Rory Butchers FF1600 to several national championships which taught me a lot about how to drive, but didn't necessarily hone my own 'skills'.

Only an occasional trackday punter these days unfortunately...

So it only says that trainers should be avoided, not anything about specific shoes or lack of.

I must have read the earlier posts on the Libre cars wrongly Renny, I did not realise that I needed full race car spec, and have neither of those.

Had booked a date with Wallace for R/R and weighting, but will cancel it now.
