Puncture repair

Post by Gooldie » Thu Apr 18, 2013 9:14 am

Would anyone be able to hazard a guess if this tyre would be able to be repaired. Just want to check before taking it down to tyre dealer.

It's not in the sidewall so if I were a betting man I would say yes. Why don't you phone your tyre fitter, ask for their email address and send them the photo for advice :thumbsup

Just read a thread where someone had similar. His handbook stated the tyre could be repaired if the puncture was a min of 2.5cm from the tyre wall. His experience was one fitter said they couldn't repair but a 2nd fitter was happy to. Looks like a difference of opinion out there and only real way of knowing would be to present the tyre at the garage.

It looks to me as if the screw has gone in at an angle; with the pointy end going towards the tyre wall; so it may be damaging the inside of the tyre wall.

I think your friendly local tyre place would fix it but the Kwik Fits and Farmers Autocare of this world will tell you its too close to the sidewall so a new tyre is required

Auto image in Edinburgh, before they closed down, repaired a few for me similar to this but Kwik fit 2 doors down wouldnt :?

Is there not a nail in it as well just up a bit and left??

I had the same experience not so long ago. One garage said not enough tread on the tyre to allow a repair, other was quite happy to repair it. Think the first place just wanted to sell me a tyre. Offending article was quite close to centre of the tyre compared to this though.

Took it to 2 different places today including Dominic's recommendation, but both said no, so new tyre needed and cant get one till Monday at earliest. Meant to be doing a knockhill driving experience in it on Monday morning so looks like i will have to cancel that.

Evora's are common as muck now, so should be someone who could lend you a wheel.
