Help and advice (Some Lotus content)
Although i love the Caterham i'm thinking it's time for a change, although knowing me nothing will happen soon.
I've sort of narrowed my options down to a supercharged Elise/Exige or a 911 - preferably one with 2wd and minimal driver aids (no i cant afford a GT3)
Budget would be about 25k (not including trading the 7) , maybe 30 at a push).
Discussions of their relative merits and advice on what to buy would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Tony
P.S. I'll probably head down from Aberdeen to Murrays on a Friday later this month, if anyone needs a lift (or some stuff) down or back then let me know - (it'll have to fit in the Aygo)

Re: Help and advice (Some Lotus content)
I had an exige and went back to the S1 elise.
One of the biggest bugbears I had was the very restrictive rear visibility. You can live with it for a while, but it really grates after a while.
Plus the the exige seemed a bit more understeery (apparently by design) for track use, I don't know if the elise is more road focused.

Exige just needs a decent geo setting.

Re: Help and advice (Some Lotus content)
If you are looking for a 911 then would definitely recommend a decent 964 for your money. You could get a 996 but more likely to have better residuals with the air cooled variety. Happy to answer any question if you want
However for the same money you will definitely get a newer Lotus and probably a safer bet (yes, this Porsche convert is recommending a Lotus).

I'm guessing you don't need 4 seats if you're considering an Elise/Exige so in the Porsche corner I'd be looking at a Gen 2 Cayman with that kind of budget. I'd go for a 2.9 with PDK but a manual S may suit you better. Go for a test drive

If it where me I'd be looking for an Exige Cup 260 or Club Racer.
Cant see either loosing much if bought for around 25-30.

with circa £25k to spend at Murrays, My choice would be either the chrome orange exige just in or Dave Hay's (Ragit on here) black on black on black facelift elise SC.

Dave's lovely black SC immediately sprung to mind for me too Tonywoody wrote:with circa £25k to spend at Murrays, My choice would be either the chrome orange exige just in or Dave Hay's (Ragit on here) black on black on black facelift elise SC.

Regarding the Porsche - neither am i, but since i'm approaching retirement i thought maybe i'd go for something semi-sensible.rossybee wrote: Dave's lovely black SC immediately sprung to mind for me too Tony![]()

Now Tony, I know you've driven a 7 in all weathers...but can you really be arsed folding yourself in a Elise/Exige?
A nice 911 is what you need

Tony,
Best of luck with the viewing, if you decide against it, more than welcome to pop in past my work to see the 911. My office is not far from MMC, at the entry to the Gyle.

Glad it is staying in the realms of SE, and going to a good home. I am sure the owner will reveal himself at some point this month!![]()
