Well car arrived on on the transporter yesterday. I'm very happy with it had it out today. I really took a punt on this as a trade in at a dealership but the history that arrived with the car is very comprehensive.
Every MOT service paperwork all neatly done in a binder divided in labeled sections.

drives great with a noticeable power increase compared to my old S1.

only thing is a bit of a exhaust smell in the car , I'm going to have checked out but all in all happy with the purchase.

I have bit more timber on me than four years ago so getting in and out with hip replacements was fun :-)

cheers

Maybe it has a cat replacement pipe. Put a cat back and all will be well - the Elise aero means exhaust fumes roll back into the cabin on deceleration.

Enjoy a classic tho!

Also check the manifold to downpipe and downpipe flexi joints - they can both leak without necessarily making massive amounts of noise but they will allow fumes to enter the cabin through the handbrake cable tunnel.

Cheers

FUMES SORTED - WIND THE WINDOWS UP!
fumes were rolling back into the cabin as you said Campbell, I drove from miles yesterday with both windows down choking and freezing
windows up today and not a sniff :D

if all fixes were so easy :D

:cheers

I would still concern myself with where the fumes are coming from. When you wind the windows down you cause suction out of the window (depending on speed, which window is open, etc., this might vary). If there is an exhaust leak pre-cat then this suction can suck the fumes in through the handbrake/gear linkage tunnel. This might contain CO (lethal) and if it goes unchecked could be very bad for you!

Basically, a modern car should pump out noxious fumes at all, whether the windows are up or down. Of course the S1 elise is not so modern ...

Cheers,
Robin

ill still get it checked I think Robin, it does not matter what window you open, even a couple of inches and you can smell exhaust fumes coming into the car. It was noticeable even on your clothing, I am quite sensitive to this any longer than 40 minutes at the car auctions and my head is banging, this was a similar smell.

today however there were no fumes at all in the cockpit when the windows were up, open the window a bit you could then smell it, ill get it checked just to be safe.
cheers

Has to be a reason Tam, the only time that an S1 should have fumes in the cabin, even without a CAT fitted, is when the back window is out.

Not quite. With cat removed, UJI would draw in fumes on the overrun. Window always in!

Car is looking good. 1000mls, that must be your garuantee up !
If it is leaky fumes, at least you will die with a smile on your face.
:-)
I'm now back to an S1 myself, prefer it so much more than the exige. My one is a bit tatty, mainly due to me be a mentalisr and not prepared to wait for a good one to turn up. Grinned and laughed out loud more in the two weeks of owning it than I ever did in entire exige ownership.

Mods planned so far with mine -
Better seats, carpet, minor repairs to bodywork, full internal carpets.
Mods achieved -
Bought hall and stairs carpet, bought a cat (meow type, not race type) new couch ....

So no money left for mods ....
:-(
Still just having lots of fun driving it as is. There is always next year .....
(i'd put money on it still having same seats and no new carpeting when I sell it)
Still, have cleaned the aftermarket airfilter, fitting ducting to get the cold air up to the filter, and bought side vent scoops, so going better for next to nothing.
