I'm sure they will sell 1,000s of them. Has anyone ever not liked any GT3 ever? You just need a bigger budget to own one

Wonder if they will upgrade the GT3RS 4.0 as well, as that has not been running for that long.
He mentioned that one improvement made was a return to rocker arms, but was that not what we had years ago?

Interesting one this. There still seems to be a mental block in some people with these twin clutch boxes, myself included, until I spent some time with one. Now I'm converted. I wouldn't buy a modern Porsche or VW without one. They elevate the car to another level in my experience.H8OAG wrote:Agreed

Not read into it, but I'll bet they'll be using rockers which amplify the action of the (still overhead) cam, making the cam lighter, with less rotational mass than if the cam itself provided the full lift. Several F1 engines use the same, rather than cams acting directly on bucket followers.

Technically masterful and would probably agree that for a daily driver, they are now a no-brainer. However, part of the interactive experience of driving a proper sports car for me is mastering the gearchange. This robs you of that layer of interaction and IMO is a mistake for the last of the great analogue supercars. To not offer even an option makes me sad.Jeremy wrote:

Yes, the argument could also be made that it's no different from when manual advance controls were removed, but had I been a driving enthusiast at the time, I'd probably have been sad about that too.

Though of course what you gain in rotational mass, you lose in torque load on the crank which has to turn these "inefficient" levers. Unless they are doing something really unique, then the rocker angle is hardly new - surely the toyota VVTi and honda VTEC engines use rockers to transfer cam action to valve stem. OK, they might still have some sort of tappet, but so what?

No idea what the engineering point is in this case (packaging?) but F1 has gone down the route of using the added complication of these levers and additional pressures, so there must be a net gain in performance for weight - I'd have thought.

I went from a Cayman S (quick shift) and Fabia vRS, both manual, to a Golf GTi with DSG.........I now would would not buy without some form of semi-auto (997 GT3 being the exception).Jeremy wrote: Would be keen to hear the thoughts of others on these gearboxes.
The ease of use for a daily driver around town can't be beaten and in spirited driving, unless you are really ham-fisted with shift selection, it is sublimely quick and always smooth.
From the video of the PDK in the new Cayman I can't imagine the GT3 PDK will be any less than brilliant.
