Camera vans
Re: Camera vans
Miss use of head lights, are they for real. That is just the daftest charge I have ever heard of and would love to charged with that. You could have a field day in court with that charge, not even sure it's a legitimate offense never mind them trying to prove why you did flash your lights.

Re: Camera vans
I think the daft old geezer they were banding about refused to back down and kept admitting under caution that he was flashing people so they would avoid the police speed trap.

I've just checked this and misuse of headlights isn't a prosecutable offense, warning only.

Re: Camera vans
I am inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt, as I do Jehova's Witnesses and other "fringe belief systems", that somehow they believe that they are doing the right thing and that all the effort that goes into enforcing speed limits and parking is somehow justifiable. Each time you read about something like this, though, you feel that bit less inclined to give them that benefit - "speeding motorists need to be spoken to" is a classic example - the person flashing the headlight is doing a marginally less bad job of that than the speeding ticket that comes in the post .... so either they are so fanatical as to be blind to simple logic, or they are lying and just trying to improve revenues. Any cops reading care to enlighten me on that one?
BTW, if a sudden flash of the headlights is dangerous, so is a lurking speed camera van ... both cause people to react suddenly and not always in the best/safest way (speeding or not).
Cheers,
Robin

Great final point robin. No logic. A recent victim of both here, best not to go into details for legal reasons for one!
Re: Camera vans
Quite correct, 79 responsible, 80 should be hung, drawn, and quartered.

Re: Camera vans
this flashing lights thing... wtf.
"look out, dick turpin ahead"
or
"look out, slowing traffic ahead"
or
"look out, icy road and accidents ahead"
whatever the reason - flashing lights warning of a hazard is community driving and the authorities are doing the wrong thing here.

maybe "perverting the course of justice" should go to anyone trying to help someone else who may be doing something illegal?

Re: Camera vans
I am "flasher" , for 1/2 mile or so after a camera. I would want someone to do it for me.
Waiting on a letter in the post too , last Saturday on the way to Stirling. Chap in front doing 80 hit the brakes and I slowed before the corner so fingers crossed and lesson learned
Note , big speeding campaign in Tayside this week. Kingsway Dundee, A92 , Broughty Ferry Road, A90 to Perth to name a few highlighted locations.

Re: Camera vans
I got caught by a van a couple of weeks ago, just north of Dundee on the A90, NIP came in the post less than a week later, asking who was driving.
That's on top of similar last year around the same time...this time 84 in a 70.
First time I've had 6 points in 20 years - so f*cked off with myself
The unfortunate irony here is both occasions were driving a 136bhp diesel estate car, where I've driven plenty miles in the past in various cars with up to more that 3 times that power
