Personally, unless you can get the seller to take the car to a garage for an inspection that includes a leakdown test and getting it on a ramp, i'd be doing the inspection myself.

It's a normal car with normal parts, the issues for the inspection are all bore and main seal related.

I'm hugely tempted to chop in the 928 for a 986S/996 though. Fantastic value for money.

I thought Porsches were supposed to be well made, why is an inspection a must? Would anyone do the same for a similarly priced non-Porsche?

I had my RS inspected to check for original body panels and get engine rev data. I've not bother previously as I bought from main dealer

NLC Porsche Boxster Owners

Looks ideal. Id need to drive 2.7 vs a 3.2 to see if it would bother me. I doubt not....both would prob be quick enough surely. Anyone?

Only thing to add is that mismatched tyres!! Bug bear of mine that people don't match. If its due to the tyres being cheaper on the latest set then is there anything else that's been scrimped upon?

Agreed. That car looks nice enough but has a whiff of 'bought a Porsche, can't really afford to run it, must offload it.' The world is full of 2nd hand Boxster so it's easy to be really choosy and very picky about which one you buy. I'd move on from this one, personally.

A bit harsh
I don't detect anything other than the seller providing a comprehensive list of answers to the usual questions a potential first time Boxster owner may ask
As to the cannot afford it?
A new 3 series or a A5 Cab is likely to be costing the seller a tad more
I do agree on the fact that there are plenty available
There was a batch of 2.7 poverty spec that appeared in the country that year. Most found their way into Corporates and Finance Houses due to a keen finance deal that was on offer
This looks like one of them

Iain, when are you next on track with the Boagster mobile?? Would love a handful of laps to see what i'd be letting myself in for if i were to go for a cayman/boxster.

Oh no, the advert is very well written indeed. And I've no doubt it's a genuine enough car.

But, multiple owners. Cheap non N rated tyres. Non franchise and non specialist servicing, The implication of possibly some DIY spannering. Halfords CD player. Not a highly specced car.

If it was £12k then yeah go buy it. At that level of investment I'd be moving on and cherry picking something with less molestation and more factory fitted toys. There are so many out there that it's very easy to be ultra fussy. But then it's not my money so not my call to make.

Your not wrong there. Im finding that theres almost too many to choose from, its making the search a lot more work than it ever was looking for a Lotus.

I would have thought that with the number available, it would make sense to go for a good fully specced one, as there would be little difference in price between that and a basic car at that age, and it would also be easier to sell on.
