Can't beat it! If you're prepared you can make it surprisingly civilised. Something about outdoors that makes food tastes better, jokes funnier, Shug look better. Or maybe that's the boozerenmure wrote:

An inflatable mattress, duvet and a pillow make for a comfier sleep than I've had in many hotels.
Showers and toilets on site are usually pretty good.

Is there not a byelaw against camping at loch lomond?
Re: West coast beach camping
No point in half measures. If you want a camping experience with a decent beach, I reckon Arisaig is your closest from Glasgow. Or brave the run down to Machrihanish.
As for why camp. Camping enables an Elise to be piloted to the better corners of Scotland for driving roads, with reduced traffic, fewer (if any) over-zealous traffic officers / scamera vans, and often better quality road surfaces and engineering too. You can enjoy the driving without having to set land speed records or risk your license, and very often the stopover location has some of the best views / scenery you'll have seen.
And all for peanuts in cost.
Just leaf through the Gallery forum looking for "Campaganza" and you'll get an idea.
The Defence rests.
PS anyone else wishing to try it out, next trip (on my radar at least...there may be others) will be early Sept to Achmelich. See Meets.

Re: West coast beach camping
Just back! Spent a fantastic two days at Arisaig with 2 boys and dog, daughter has chicken pox so couldnt come and wife looking after her - so boys road trip in the "new" wheels!
Camped at the Silver Sands campsite, fantastic beaches right next to the tent, not the best facilities but enjoyed it thoroughly! Others were full, but saw a friend at sunnyside croft, bit further from beach but recommended - facilities top class!
Anyway - thanks for the recommendation - had a blast!!!!
The new wheels..... (bit different to an exige!)

The beach 20 yards from the tent

Fri night

Sat night

Scotland at its best!

Loving the new wheels Barry
Looks like the weather was not too unkind to you.
So will you be joining us in September?

Just adopt the SE Drinkers approach.
Drink so much booze that you won't give a toss about any draughts, duvets and fluffy pillows when you crash out. If you make it back to your tent you're doing well.
In the morning you'll be too hungover to care.
Rinse, repeat.
The thought of doing it sober however, fills me with dread
