Elise S2 Battery

I dont know if this is a silly question or not as im not that clued up on all the lotus bits and bobs yet... But ive just bought a charger for my 2001 S2 battery as its dead in the garage and on the instructions it says..

Check before you connect cables as some cars may have " positively earthed batteries " is this the case with the elise?

Charger bought is CTEK MXS 3.6

Elise is Negative earth, I have one of these terminals fitted, it saves disconnecting the battery totally when charging or not using the car for a long period, you just unscrew the knob, works as an anti theft device and would save the nightmare of reversed polarity connection, definately worth £5.

Are you going to charge in situ or remove the battery? To be honest it's an easy job on S2 and so it might make sense to remove the battery and charge outside of the car.

If you're going to charge inside the car the +ve terminal is relatively easy to reach but the -ve terminal might be hard depending on the size of the crocodile clip on your charger; if you cannot reach the -ve terminal you can clip the -ve croc clip to the engine body instead (it's all earthed).

I think charger should have a quick connect cable Robin (with terminals). So should be a one off job to fit this to the battery and run the cable outside the battery box into the boot...easy future charging...

Cheers guys, i was just planning on keeping the battery in the car and connecting the charger to it that way as ive read about some of the problems that can happen when removing the battery and the way you connect it back it can fry the ECU unit which i dont want to even try doing...
im pretty sure il manage to connect the negative clip onto the battery easy enough without the need off removing the battery from the car

Had my battery on charge for over 15hrs and still nothing... Derek thinks the battery could away

I got a halfords battery yesterday £77 but my friend has a trade card so with his discount i got it for £52 which wasnt too bad everythings working fine now, its off the road for winter now anyways so ill keep it on trickle charge through the winter....
